UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020
search “aha heartsaver first aid” or just click the link: https://ahainstructornetwork.americanheart.org/AHAECC/classConnector.jsp?pid=ahaecc.classconnector.home&courseid=1-6AA6JK&language=1001&_ga=2.152140537.1173791445.1568655307-910083669.1568172624 and enter your zip. you’ll get a list of places and prices so you can shop around. @aric91so neither AHA nor ARC specify pediatrics because the course is adult/child/peds. so if it’s specific, it’s the wrong one. the one for health care professionals is what you need. that’s strange that you couldn’t find a simple first aid course. who are you planning to get cert from?

UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020
@DBRO31 girrrrl tell me about it! I’m working nonstop until school starts too. it’s so draining ? and no need to apologize! I just wasn’t sure if I was making sense lol I’ve been up way too long! @aric91 I’m ready for that red scrub top! eeeeeepp ???
-
UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020
so you took the health care professional cpr course and signed up for adult cpr/first aid? if that’s the case, you will have completed certification ? and some lol
-
UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020
well yeah they are two different courses; one is offered through AHA and the other through ARC. but they’re equivalent in the type of certification we need. it has to be the CPR for health care regardless of the company we choose. and then your first aid cert is a simple first aid anyone can take regardless of profession. I hope I’m making sense lol and am I the only one watching youtube nursing school shopping hauls?? BECAUSE I WANT TO BE READY YESTERDAY ???

BLS and CPR can be used interchangeably ( AHA calls it BLS and ARC calls it BLS/CPR for the one we need). it’s just the health care part that matters. but if you took the health professional one already, then the one you signed up for should suffice your first aid cert

UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020
by negative you mean not immune?
-
UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020
I really don’t think that’s the correct course. we need the one for health care professionals. unless you already spoke to eunice or a faculty member in the school of nursing and they confirmed it was correct. because if that’s the case then ignore me lol. it would suck for any of you to take that course only to realize it’s the wrong one and pay more money for the right one ?

I did both my BLS and first aid in person through two different centers (to get the lowest price). I got my certifications from american heart association. I know AHA offers BLS w/first aid (depending on the training center you choose). I’m not too sure about red cross

UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020
@aric91 as long as it’s labeled for professional rescuers or health care providers. Idk if they offer that with first aid. well actually... they might

per Eunice, we will receive information about the insurance at orientation. so even though our letter reads to have everything done prior to december, that’s the only thing we can have missing

UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020
my own insurance doesn’t cover it and I work in the veterinary field. granted cats and dogs are different species from us, but I work with needles every day I don’t think all insurances offer it. I hope the school does because it’s probably cheaper than private insurance
-
UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020
I called and no answer ? I read that we need blood borne pathogen coverage/needle stick insurance. I’m probably jumping the gun here, but I just want to get everything done lol ? I wonder if this is an insurance we buy through UIW

UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020
I haven’t gotten a response either ? but I call her too much lol and I’ve paid everything as well

and the TB test has to be read within 48-72 hours post injection. so it’s less than a three day process for that
