Thank you nitecap that was very helpful. Question # 3 I knew it was the venous system but I thought the answer was too simple. So of course I was looking for something more indepth. He caught me there.

clinical questions/help please
I was asked the following shadowing questions during a shadowing experience. Can I get some feedback and let me know if I am on the right track or not. 1. Explain dead space in the lungs? after during research my understanding of it is parts of the respiratory tract that doesnt take part in gas exchange. put reading the physiologic explanation it states gas volume of the alveoli that are not functional b/c of absent or poor flow through capillaries. Now can deadspace be catagorized as both function 2. what is shunting? my explanation of this after doing some research is basically a small percent of the cardiac output that bypass the lungs and enter the pulmonary vein through the bronchial tree. Now b/c this bypass the lungs is that portion still considered oxygenated blood returning to pulmnary vien? I know this may sound like a stupid question but I am trying to comprehend it all. from my understanding co2 and o2 exchange takes place in the alveoli which is located in the broanchial tree. correct me if I am wrong. why is this shunting important. I want to make sure I am not missing the point. 3. last how does blood get back to the heart. without looking this up my first thought is the area of low and high pressure. I am not sure how it works. thanks in advance for your response. I am working on 3 as I surf..

Thomas Jefferson Program
there program have not been approved yet. But if there is a physician opposition there why put these students through these non-welcoming situations? I there anyone out there that have been accepted to their program. I am in the stages where i am reconsidering my desicion about applying to PA schools. I heard nazareths sends there students anywhere that will accept them into the o.r. How much is their clinical fee that is jefferson in comparison to nazareth.

Thomas Jefferson Program
You do pose an important point. How can they afford to charge so much for a program in that area. I believe there are 6 programs in the area in addition that is a new program. That is irate the should be giving away money to get individuals through the program. Display some success for the first set of students, then there will be solid proof the program will be successful. I would not dare apply there when I have so many options. That is too much. I know its a great investment but not when you can go somewhere else for similar or better education for less.

study process/SRNA process
Lou Thank you for your feedback. I have been accepted for Jan 2006, which is around the corner since we are in 2006. I am the kind of person if I dont understand the concept behind something its becomes difficult for me. I have been trying to prepare myself for this by review some intro to nurse anesthesia and clinical anesthesia books. The chemistry is my fear. I took the basic chemistry class in undergrad and did not really like it much. Maybe b/c it did not apply to anything that was familiar to me. I have been review some of the chemistry behind some of the drugs such as thiopental ( subsituting the oxgyen for sulfer in the 2nd postion of the barbituric acid sturture). I wanted to actually get an idea of how indepth into chemistry will the program go. I am type A and do not like to fail so I will work for success. Again thanks for the feedback b/c I am anxious, nervous, curious about how this process will go. I know once I am in there it will be days were I will ask myself why? But this is what I want to do b/c I am intrigued by the science and art behind anesthesia, might seem cliche' but I love challenges. And of course the financial reward helps. I will keep everyone posted on my progress. It might not be on a regular basis but i will. thank you Rose
