  1. hey does anyone want to start a whatsapp or discord group?
  2. Did anyone else attend the orientation Tuesday ? what did y'all think
  3. This was perfect thank you.
  4. hey jenn.. how exactly do I know what my Network ID is ? it asks me for it before registering a locker.
  5. does anyone know how the electives work? I chose one and am enrolled.. do I need more than one elective for first semester?
  6. Hey I received one as well! Thanks for the heads up. It was my first choice school so I accepted! Pretty excited.
  7. I am yet to have heard from Mohawk or Conestoga concerning acceptance. I did however participate in the Red Cross basic life support course and am certified. While I was there the instructor explained the BLS certification is only required in 2nd year rpn -even though the Conestoga site states it as an admission requirement- and that I will likely need to get standard cpr certified before January. Either way, it was a great experience and I was able to get some hands on training. I was able to find the St.Johns reference guide book at a used book store for cheap and studied through it extensively before the course and this helped me have more confidence in the learning environment.
  8. Sunshine205 I think we both will be accepted ? I hope so at least it would be nice to know someone going into our first days. Yes Conestoga is first choice then Mohawk but I think I'd rather do pre health at conostoga then reapply to either Fanshawe or Conestoga in the fall rather than go to Mohawk. I don't like traffic.
  9. sunshine205 Hey there. I also received an offer for the rpn program for Sheridan earlier in June. However, it was never my intentions on going to that school so I let the offer expire. I have also recently received and accepted an offer for prehealth at Conestoga. I'm hoping to circumvent the prehealth courses as my grades are quite good.
  10. CatheterKing It is true looking at statistics is a good way to get a rounded understanding of a situation. I found this quote in an article about dropout rates for nursing programs in Canada vs. countries like the UK, and USA. "The admissions model in some countries, like the UK, is to admit a lot of students and make them prove themselves. In Canada, however, the focus is on identifying the students who will thrive from the get-go. “We have a very low drop-out rate and I think that’s because of the rigour that is the admissions process,” said Dr. Margo Mountjoy, a regional assistant dean for McMaster University’s medical school." In Canada in 2017 only 0.5% of students who entered nursing programs dropped out. Contrast this to the UK where about 300 of the UK’s 6000 medical students (5%) quit every year, and another 1600 are asked to leave for poor academic performance.
  11. CatheterKing While you do make a few good points, some of us are not in situations where we can readily relocate and would have a better chance of success if it could be avoided. Also, the hoae test wasn't designed for no reason. I can think of at least 3 good reasons why attending a school with it as a requirement could be beneficial to a future student of nursing.
  12. sunshine205 hey! awesome to hear from someone else going through the same journey! Your marks are really good! Are they university courses or the college level prerequisites? If uni then I believe you receive an extra 10% so you would have 103.75 % I believe the way they calculate scores is as follows: your high school marks average X .5 + hoae score percentage X .45 + 5% for other credentials. I think they only add the 5% one time but I may be wrong. so if you took college level prerequisites you would have 82.93 of 100 and 87.93 if uni. Also, don't worry about your hoae mark, when I was there the program director stated 60 or 65 % was the minimum requirement, and when I called her a couple weeks ago she told me there wasn't as great an influx of applicants as in previous years. Finally, I noticed through the conestoga website the January intake has closed as of the July 22. I also derived through this site that last years applicants for the 2019 winter intake heard from the school as late as August 27. Post on here if you hear from them ? best of luck to us both!!
  13. CURLYKATE what did you get on the hoae ? Do you think my marks are good enough ?
  14. I took the hoae in June at Conestoga and applied for the January 2020 rpn program. Has anyone heard anything concerning waitlists? My high school marks were 95% average through upgrading (college level courses) and I recieved a mark of 80% on the hoae. I do not have any means of achieving the extra 5% based on previous healthcare diplomas such as psw.. Are these marks sufficient enough for acceptance?
