It’s going well! My unit is “medsurg” but it focuses on mainly vascular surgery, whipples, and bariatric surgery and then the random overflows of Thoracic and Ortho patients. There’s def a lot to learn as a new grad and as a nurse everyday. I do feel anxious going into work every day just because our unit can get so crazy busy so i don’t know what i’m walking into lol, but also because i’m new too! I also prefer night shifts over day shifts, i’m being considered to be switch over to permanent nights! :)

Hi everyone! I’m a new grad starting at BIDMC Boston in a vascular surgery unit next month. I wanted to ask for any helpful tips or any info working at this hospital, this type of unit, or even how to prep as a new grad in general. Anything will help from your experience! I’ve done a clinical rotation and my preceptorship here during nursing school so i am somewhat familiar with it, but i would love to know more. Also, feel free to add anything you know about how the benefits package works and what the differentials are for night/evening/weekend shift. I am supposed to meet with HR soon to discuss all this but just wanted to get a head start on this info. Thank you so much in advance!
