  1. I believe that they look at the overall GPA at first, however, as they are narrowing down the applicants they will look at the Nursing Core GPA. Honestly, as long as you have a strength in either GPA or TEAS you will be fine! Try and score high on the TEAS because that will balance your application out. Getting in is not as hard as other schools, so don't be super worried about that. I wish you good luck, and let me know how it goes! I'm in my 4th week so far and we have our first nursing exam the week after next! The program really is very well-rounded with the BEST instructors. If you get in the program my best advice is to make sure you do ATI ahead of time and finish your clinical orientations before the start of class. This will help you focus on the material better.
  2. Hi guys! I got accepted to the Fall ASN 2020! So excited!
  3. I have not heard anything yet either...still waiting! I did ASN only so maybe those letters will come out later. This is sooooo hard!
  4. Hey guys! The program accepts 50 for fall and 50 for Spring. In the past, the letters have gone out in the first to the second week of April. Just Google search "middle Georgia state university allnurses" and you will get about 7 different links. Go through them and see what GPA the people who got accepted had as well as when they received their letters. It will help you get a better idea of what you are looking for. I am nervous too and have been checking the mail religiously! I hope ya'll are in my cohort! I am so nervous. I hope we even have a fall semester with all of this cornovirus. I have been thinking about how that would affect everyone! However, with the nursing shortage that people are talking about, maybe there will be exceptions. IDK, but I am praying that things get better soon. I live right outside of Athens and have had confirmed cases in Oconee (where I live) and numerous in Athens. I am not worried about getting sick, rather the impact this has had on so many people! God bless you all and keep each other posted! Thank the Lord! Nervous and excited and hope we all get in!
  5. I inquired about this after this coronavirus outbreak and was told that letters will be sent towards the beginning of April. If something changes they will let us know. Good luck to everyone! I am growing nervous as the time approaches!
  6. Sorry for some of the quotation mistakes I have made on this forum! Do you guys know anyone else applying to this program?
  7. Wow! Those are both nice combinations. I live right here in Athens as well...small world! Too bad UGA doesn't have a nursing program. It is kind of ridiculous actually because they could easily round up very passionate professors and students and have one of the best programs in Georgia! The BSN and ASN deadlines are the same.
  8. For anyone applying to BSN, the average acceptance GPA for BSN Fall 2018 was a 3.47 and the average TEAS was a 75. Keep in mind that I was told that year by year the GPA is slightly increasing as the program becomes more well known, but this won't be a major change for this year. In addition, it is important to realize that the averages change every year and depend on how many people apply and their academics. Because MGA is not really a 4-year school people dream of going to for nursing, it is less competitive. However, the program has excellent NCLEX pass rates. The 2019 first time NCLEX pass rate was a 94.83. To put that into perspective, Emory's NCLEX pass rate for 2019 was only 96.26%. So while the program accepts students with worse grades, it knows how to teach students how to pass the NCLEX. And as a bonus instead of ending with 150K in debt, you can end up with only around 15-25K in debt if you get a loan for all of it! It does not matter how "good" the school is, all that matters is how the school prepares students to take the NCLEX.
  9. I don't mind! My GPA is 4.0 (so far) and my TEAS is an 82.7. They will also look at your subsection scores so don't worry if you did bad on the English portion (because I made like a 50 on that section!). They used to have the average GPA and TEAS on the degree planning sheet, however, they stopped adding it this year, but I still had a copy from previous years. For the ASN program (Fall 2018) the average TEAS was a 71% and the average GPA was a 3.05. Hopefully this helps you see where you stand. It changes from year to year, but my advisor told me herself that the program is not as competitive as other programs where you have to make like a 90 on the TEAS to even me considered.
  10. Hey! I applied to ASN! I hope we all get in as well. We should find out first week of April. Once the deadline is here, Carla Higgs (nursing school administrator) reviews the applications as a first round of selection. She considers TEAS, GPA, withdraw patterns, and any other factors that apply. She then sends the list of students that qualify to the admissions committee (the professors) who sift through those applications and come up with a narrower list of applicants. Finally, the list is then reviewed for accuracy by either the department head or the dean of nursing. Let me know if you have any other questions, I may or may not be able to answer them. Keep your fingers crossed ?
  11. Hey I just applied! We talked earlier about MGA, but hopefully more people can share their stats with us!
  12. Yeah, this is pretty dumb. How can someone make decisions on where grants and funds should be allocated if they don't even know the importance of nursing functions? I would be gravely disappointed if this person stayed in this position. Nursing research is essential to improving healthcare, and understanding basic nursing principles is necessary in discerning where research funding should go to. In this case, business would not help as much because the problem at hand deals with understanding nursing. Therefore, they should be hiring someone with BOTH a nursing and accounting/business background. There are plenty of nurses out their who have gone through dual MSN/administration programs.
  13. This is awesome, and so many people do not realize this. This is what sets apart a compassionate RN at heart from people just trying to get through. You are going to be an awesome nurse!
  14. Thanks for the info! It is very encouraging! I hope we are in the same cohort so we can study together. I promise I will not bring you down, I am one of those people that stays in track and on topic. I have always struggled to find good study groups because the people use me. I take a lot of notes, read all of the assignments and ask the teachers questions. I like helping people, but I can tell if someone is just being my friend to get good grades. You seem like you are the total opposite of this, so maybe we can arrange something one we find out we got in (I believe we will!) the program! Did you read the other forums? Let me know if you have anymore Q's! My name is Michael by btw!
  15. Wow! That makes me nervous, but that is not enough to stop me. My biggest worry is that I will not study the right things. When I read, I always feel that everything is important. My notes get so long and take so much time that by the time I am done taking them, I sometimes don't even have enough time to study them! Do your teachers give you study guides or anything to help guide your learning. By the way, MGA uses ATI for their NCLEX study. I have heard people complain about it, but it prepares them. I am also going to buy the Saunders NCLEX review day one so I can have a comprehensive review. Any other study tips?
  16. Thanks for the advice! Was there a lot of reading? I am used to reading 50+ pages of material a week, but nursing school is so much harder than the classes I have taken (from what I have heard).
  17. I am glad I was able to help. As I said earlier, let me know if you need any additional help! Make sure that you explain to Lisa Kelly that you were previously enrolled in a nursing program so that she can walk you through what you will need to submit. I have some questions for you though. How did you study for nursing school? I am the type of person that takes too many notes and this will not work in nursing school. Any tips would be helpful!
  18. Both of these scores are higher than the average acceptance scores, so try your best not to stress over getting in because I think you will have a great chance at getting in. The professors are the selection committee. Did you ever get to finish any nursing courses? If you did, then the professors would see this as a benefit and you would be a more competitive applicant. However, if you failed nursing courses then this would not be good. Talk to Kelly Lisa and she will helo you with the ENTIRE process. Just explain your situation and she will explain. I will be starting a thread the day the application opens so be on the look out for it P.S you find out acceptance around April. Let me know if you have any additional questions!
  19. Here are some contacts you might want to reach out to for additional info! [email protected] ( 478-934-3520) Mrs. Kelly is SOOOOOOOOOO helpful and kind. She takes her time to explain the requirements of the program. When you reach out to her she may request to skype with you. She did this for me, and we went over all of the required classes I need to take and really just answered all of my questions (even ones that were not in her department). I highly recommend her. [email protected] (phone: 478.275.6808) Higgs, WONDERFUL. She is helpful and will answer your questions about the costs of the program as well as additional requirements.
  20. You can see on pg 3 that I asked some people questions about the program. She had a lot of positive things to say about MGA. On the one with 3 replies might help some too. If you want even more info google search "Middle Georgia State University allnurses" and you will get like 5 different threads. This is how I found them ?
  21. Hey! I am so sorry about your mom's death! I know that must have been hard. Just know you have a family here on the allnurses blog! To answer your questions, MGA is not that difficult to get into. Their average TEAS score for the ASN program Fall 2018 was a 71. Their average GPA was a 3.0. For the BSN, the average was 75 TEAS and a 3.45 GPA. From what I have heard, the instructors are all VERY nice! This is reflected in their NCLEX pass rates, which have climbed close to Emory's pass rates. The advisor, Lisa Kelly, is the best. She is helpful and can answer any of your questions. I will include some great contacts if you have additional questions about the program. When I asked my adviser about how competitive the program was, she said it really wasn't. I believe that she said, "BSN program accepts 100 and has about 160 applicants". This is not competitive (she aid so herself). If you do not mind me asking, what are your GPA/TEAS? My GPA is 4.0 and TEAS is 83. My advisor told me there was not really a chance that I would not get accepted. The following links will help answer your questions (look at page three of the Second one). Do not hesitate to keep asking questions I may have missed!
  22. Hey! I have not applied yet, but am applying to the ASN Fall entry program in January. Do you have any particular questions about the program? I have talked to an advisor on multiple occasions and am fairly familiar about what the admissions is looking for. Additionally, I have asked question on older forums too. Check those out if you need!
  23. Hello everyone! Has anyone applied to ABAC for the generic nursing program track? If so what were your HESI and GPA scores? I have a 3.9 GPA right now, but I have not take HESI yet. I have heard that the program is super competitive since it has highest NCLEX pass rates in Georgia. Anyone who wants to share please comment ?
  24. Thanks for your comments lopezjeff! I definitely think that really immersing myself in all of the different units and rotations in nursing school will help me understand what I am comfortable with in terms of environment. I think that one thing that is really hard about ICU is that sometimes rules have to be broken to save your patient (getting medication even if it is not yet prescribed).
  25. Thank you for your comment Hoosier_RN! Sounds like great advice. I am actually not even in nursing school yet, so maybe I will get a better idea once I get there in the Fall. Thanks again!
