  1. 1. Where is it that you work and how long have you been working there? Southport Correctional Facility, NYS, 15 years 2. What exactly do you do? Care of 252 inmates every day. Sick call, tb tests, bp checks, just about everything. :) 3. What is the salary range? Top pay is $54,000 4. Where did you go to high school? Corning, NY 5. Where did you go to College? Corning Community College 6. How long did it take to get through college? 2 years 7. Have you enjoyed working there? if not why? if so is there anything that makes it so great? Most of the time its good. There are "those days" though. 8. How are the people that you work with and treat? Most of the people I work with are good, but the ones I treat are Inmates. Need I say more??? 9. Why did you want to be a nurse? Job Security. 10. When did you realize you wanted to be a nurse? When I was OLD!!!!!!! I started nursing school when I was 38. Finished when I was 40. 11. How is working there different than working in lets say a hospital? Good grief!! Sooooo many answers to that one. Not much at all like working in a hospital. 12. Have you had any other jobs or worked any where else? if so what were they? I was a keypunch operator, (told you I was old!!) Also an accounts receivable clerk. 13. What are the most common injuries you have seen? Not too many injuries. Most of the sick call requests are just bunk. They just want it ALL. 14. When do you plan on retiring? When I am 64. I will have 20 years in by then. 15. What is the most interesting thing that has happened to you on the job? Probably watching a man that had "cut up" and was refusing to let us in to help him. He bled soooooo much. Hope this helps. If you need more, just email me.
  2. Sorry to see you leave NYS. We are losing too many good nurses. No, I don't think you should have to start at the bottom. Too bad they don't have the clause in their contract like we do that says if you have more than 7 years nursing experience, you start at the top of the pay grade. Good luck in your new job. Stay safe.
