Midamerica Nazarene University (MNU) ABSN Spring 2020
You will have off most of the days that MNU closes, however sometimes a professor may post a PowerPoint with a voiceover to watch since you will be missing a day of class. You will have a week off for Spring break during your Mod 1. We had off the full week of Thanksgiving and a month at Christmas, I assume it will be the same for you. Good luck to you all! I look forward to seeing you on campus soon! Be sure to reach out if you need anything. ?

@aklb465 I will not spend near that amount, but I suppose some people might. I am renting books and not buying them. A friend gifted me a stethoscope. I only bought two pairs of scrubs and I got them on sale, haha! I also had most of my immunizations. On a side note, start gathering proof of immunizations now, and if you are missing any try to get them before you start classes. All that to say it might be good to plan on $5000, but know you may not need it all. I hope that helps. ?

1. In the first module we had 3 or 4 writing assignments/papers. In the second module we only had one. You will use APA for all papers. If you aren't familiar with that style take some time to look it over. The student success center will edit your papers for free, so I always try to get mine finished a couple days ahead of time so I can send it to them. 2. There isn't really a time that you just shadow a nurse. You will have your first clinical experience in module 2 at a long term care facility. Each facility is a little different but you will care for residents and use the skills learned in Concepts 1 & 2. You will interact with nurses but will mostly be assessing and caring for the residents. 3. In my opinion the workload is heavy and very fast, but I do not have any healthcare experience. Students who already work in a hospital may not find it quite as challenging. Honestly, I spend the majority of my spare time studying. Most students do not work during the program, but there are some who do. You will have an average of 2-3 exams each week over several chapters of material along with quizzes and assignments. Our cohort has a OneDrive group where we upload exam objectives and work on them together which has been extremely helpful. Here are some things you can do while you wait to start in March. I wish I would have done these things!! Learn medical terminology. I had no idea we were expected to know it before class. Review A&P, micro and biologyWatch Cathy Parkes videos on Youtube for pharmacology and buy her flash cards. Registered Nurse RN is great, too!If you don't know it already, learn dimensional analysis. You will need this for dosage calc. Do not buy your textbooks through MNU!! You can rent real books from Chegg, or rent online books through vital source. For PrepU (online text with assignments for class) call lippincott and order directly from there. They give you a discount and add what you need to your account. I hope that helps some. Let me know if you have any other questions! Beth :)

@whoAmItoSay how close will you be living to the school? Is there any way you could buy a cheap car?? If not, maybe there will be a classmate who lives In Olathe that could help with transportation.

Does anyone know when our orientation is and what day classes begin?

MNU ABSN Fall 2019
@PleaseDontForgetMyName I am currently taking Nutrition and have to take Statistics and English Comp II this summer at JCCC. What class are you needing? I paid my deposit and emailed my acceptance paperwork to confirm that I am attending in the fall. If you were accepted you have a spot, but if you don’t pass the class needed with a C or better you lose your place.

MNU ABSN Fall 2019
@radiate I am so glad to hear that the instructors are approachable, that was a concern of mine as well. I heard that you have breaks after each module and some time off around Christmas, is that correct? Do you find that you are having to use that time to study? Also, did you have an informational meeting before classes began??

@radiate may I ask which module has been the most challenging so far and why? Also, can you suggest ways to prepare for pharmacotherapy?
