  1. I was giving a patient her flu shot today and after I had given it to her, I accidentally poked my thumb. I work in a OBGYN office and on top of that, it’s my second week here! I reported it to my supervisor. Supervisor went in and talked to the patient. Patient got blood work done. Negative HIV but still waiting on hep b results. I have horrible anxiety. I felt bad that it was an inconvenience for the patient to have to go and get blood work done after she had told me while I was giving her flu shot that she hated needles. Also, the lab had her waiting for a very long time to get her blood work done because the patient ended up coming back up to our office complaining that she had to leave and how much longer she had to wait. (Lab is located in same building as our office) I feel relieved that hiv results came back negative. I do know now to be more careful but I’m more worried about the patient. I know I will run into her eventually in the future again.
