  1. In the hospital in san diego where I work in, there is an immense nursing shortage. I applied for a job online, and the next business day, 3 recruiters all from the same healthcare team (just different branches) called me and told me they will forward my name to nursing managers, and true enough, I got a call that day and another one the next day and so on, all asking for an interview the next day. It was tough choosing one since they all needed additional staff. They even give out bonuses for their employees who are able to refer an RN to their hospital. If you are applying, especially choose a position where you are really qualified, and that you have preferred qualifications to increase your chances of getting hired. I got hired a week after I started applying.
  2. that's great, I've just been accepted in telemetry. so you would say its a good area to work if you plan to go to the OR? thanks
  3. What do you mean "Old school" and that m/s will only benefit you down the road? I really love the OR and as a fresh graduate I am looking at many areas which can prepare me for the OR in the future. I need advices from experienced OR nurses! thanks

As a new graduate rn, naturally most of the hospitals i have applied for prefer those with experience with regards to OR. I love the OR and my question is in what hospital area would be the best for you if you plan to go in the OR later? and what specialization would be recommended? I am currently offered positions in telemetry and Med/surg/oncology.
  5. I graduated in the Philippines and employers here are asking for a GPA. How do you present your grades from the philippines?
  6. In the Philippines, the influx of nursing students is immense too. It is also difficult to get into a bsn program which takes 4 years to complete. If after you graduate, you plan to apply in california, the brn does not require any other tests such as local boards or cgfns, you can directly take the nclex after graduating. I studied in the philippines and have just passed the nclex-rn applying in CA
  7. the brn send you cpr?
  8. can u apply for a job even without the formal letter to you by the ca brn if you have seen your name in the permanent license verification?
  9. sorry for my primitivity, but what do they do in telemetry? I noticed that most of the job offers for new grads are in telemetry? In what area do you recommend a new graduate to work in the hospital? thanks
  10. also, a letter will be sent to you by the ca brn if you passed or not, however, I know naturally that you couldn't hardly wait like everyone to know, so you can check the website
  11. Nina9404, to find out if you passed via the website, click on the online permanent license verification link on the right of the CA brn's main webpage and when the next page appears, type your name there, if your name appears, then congrats, you passed and you are now an rn, if not, it may be that your results are not in yet or that you have failed. i took the exam on jan 25 and saw my name in the website on the 28. I almost jumped with the sight of my name and had to refresh the page twice to check if what i see is true. best of luck to everyone and congrats to all who passed
  12. I suggest you do not just rely on a single book, though saunders is a great review book, its very helpful to have other sources as well, better yet, a review program. I took kaplan complete online review course and it really helped me a lot in strategies (it has a definite 3-4 month program so your review time is well alloted for and used efficiently instead of just sitting down and reviewing aimlessly at a pile of notes and books. Also I used the nclex-rn made incredibly easy, and Lippincot's review for nclex-rn, and also the nclex-3000 by lippincot question software. sounds overwhelming? well, if it's spaced within about 6 months as i did, its not quite that hard. All the hard work and time I have devoted to review was worthwhile feeling at last that you are an rn. best of luck
  13. I know the pain of waiting, i took mine last jan 25 and the wait is killing me, i have to call the brn too to confirm if they have my transcript, just in case... lets hope for the best...
  14. I am a foreign graduate so I am getting my cpr certification here for the first time. what is the heartsaver? thanks for your advice
  15. Hi, I am a US citizen, and I took up my bsn course in the philippines, and I just took the nclex-rn for the first time this morning. hopefully I pass. how's study? what school are you attending?
