  1. Hi guys, As my header shows, I am agonizing over whether to chose LSU or University of South Alabama's PMHNP program. Do y'all know anything about either one? I have been accepted at USA for the Spring semester, and have heard positive things about the program from all 3 coworkers who have attended it. However, I have very strong ties to LSU and am tempted to take the GRE and start their program in the summer of 2019. LSU Pros: Well-ranked school with a good local reputation, they help find preceptors (the VA and UMC are right across the street), take classes with FNPs and so have some cross-training in education, a DNP program. Cons: More expensive (about $40,000 more total!!!), more stressful as it is a DNP program with bio stats, a capstone project etc, classes are in person and make it harder to work. USA Pros: Inexpensive, good program, online classes, could move if I wished. Cons: USA is not as highly ranked as LSU, I would (probably?) have to find my own preceptors. Neutral: It is an MSN program and so is 2 years in length vs LSU's 3 years. I could earn money as a PMHNP sooner and go to an Ivy or equivalent (or LSU!) for the MSN-DNP bridge. About me: 37 years old, psych nurse for 2 years, a free spirit, intelligent, have substantial student loan debt from my first bachelor's degree. Any input would be appreciated. I have spoken to students in both programs as well. Thank you!
