Hi Drea, You’re very lucky to have US citizenship as you won’t have the immigration hassles that we Canadians face. I would recommend first calling the Hawai’i Board of Nursing. Did you do your nursing program in Canada, and if so, do you currently hold a provincial RN license? If your nursing credentials are Canadian, you may have to go through the accreditation process (I think it’s still called the CGFNS) which isn’t a big deal; it’s just very time consuming. I was recruited by a hospital in California ages ago (2005) and I needed both by CGFNS paperwork, a letter with my job offer, and I had to declare my intention to obtain a TN visa at US customs at the Calgary airport. I initially held a Minnesota licence (back when we still had to go to the States to write the NCLEX) and Nursys allowed me to get my California licence through reciprocity. Perhaps you might want to contact some of the travel nursing agencies too. -Tamara
