To clarify: Prior to this I had been a LPN for 6 years on a Acute Rehab unit where I received almost the same patient population that I have in Med Surg. The only difference is I can handle IV's in the hospital. Thank you all for the feedback!

I started my job as a new grad RN on a Med Surg/Telemetry floor in July. I have been off orientation for a few weeks now and have come to the realization that Med Surg isn't my thing. I have always wanted to be an ER nurse and honestly Med Surg is too slow for me. I feel that my tasks are very repetitive and crave for emergencies to occur on our unit (not trying to sound morbid). I applied to the Med Surg unit for experience and at the time our ER did not have any positions available. A position opened up in our ER and I placed my application. I made my manager aware and submitted a request for an Early Transfer. She wants to meet with me to discuss the reason for my transfer and expressed that it may not be approved. I have voiced that I'm not happy working in Med Surg and it's not the specialty for me. I'm nervous that the request will not be approved and that they will fire me after I was honest and voiced that I'm not happy in Med Surg. I totally get her frustration for me placing my request early. Do you think I made a mistake being honest and voicing how I truly feel?

Hi! So I had a similar issue with the PA SBON. I graduated on May 17th, my school sent our transcripts May 25th and I did not receive my ATT until the middle of June, tested June 25th and passed. I had contacted the SBON twice and after my second time, received my ATT the next day. My friend actually drove to the office in Harrisburg and they issued her ATT that day. From what I've heard- PA SBON is really far behind with everything, new grad applications, issuing licenses and renewals. Hang in there! You'll get it soon :)

I finally contacted the SBON after waiting three weeks. After I got off of the phone with them I literally got my ATT the next day. My friend was waiting a month, drove down to the SBON office and got her ATT that afternoon. It's a pain having to wait on the phone for 2 hours but totally worth it!

Update: I passed! I'm officially a RN :)

I believe I read somewhere that if you exam results are on hold it could be because your palm scan was having difficulties. I've also read NUMEROUS articles about people who got the "bad" pop up and still passed the NCLEX! The PV trick isn't always accurate :) Have faith! I bet you passed it :)

Here is my experience when I worked as a CNA: I am a COMPLETE introvert (like the person who hangs out with the dog at parties haha). I obtained my CNA when I was 16 from a LTC facility one summer break. I was this 5'4, 90lb quiet girl who pretty much blended into the walls. I remember literally trying to "plan" conversations in my head to talk to the residents and my coworkers about (that never worked ). I would have to say the awkardness really went away after I was off orientation and I was alone taking care of my residents. The confidence came maybe a few months I was on the job and I knew I was providing my residents with what they needed. The nice thing about LTC is the elderly are so thankful that you are there caring for them and most of them are REALLY patient while you learn. There were times I forgot to take dentures out at bedtime or forgot to put their glasses on their bedside table. The first time I had to give a whirlpool bath, I forgot how to work it! The resident was so patient and understanding. In the end, you become their family and you really have a spot for them in your heart at the end of the day. Honestly, you may work with coworkers that get frustrated with you. However, MOST of them will be so friendly, accommodating and understanding! My advice would be don't be that person that blends into the wall. Take that uncomfortable step and introduce yourself to your fellow coworkers! (It will be uncomfortable but worth it!!). Seek out EVERY opportunity you can. There was a day during my orientation period that I asked to do all of the showers. There was a day when I asked to take all the vital signs. Seek out new experiences especially when you are training. Soak up as much as you can. You and your fellow aides will be a team at the end of the day :) I promise I have worked with more rewarding team members then not. If you are struggling, tell them :) They will help you. I personally loved LTC! I got some many rewarding experiences out of it. I started out in LTC and don't regret it to this day. It taught me awesome time management and I just found that environment very rewarding. I love going to work every day to spend time with my residents and make them smile. I would recommend to start out in LTC where you have people to "fall back on".

Hi everyone! I figured I would write a post while I impatiently wait the next 24 hours to get my quick results :) I took my NCLEX Thursday at 1pm. My scheduled time was 2pm but the lovely folks at PV took me back as soon as I got there. I had 75 questions (25 of them were SATA ) I did the PV trick shortly after the exam, last night and today at 2pm (24 hours after my initial exam time). I received the good pop up all three times! I know that it's 99% accurate but I don't want to put my faith in a "trick." I have another 24 hours until I receive my quick results! I'm going CRAZY!!!!

I received my ATT the day after I called them. I was on the phone for 2.5 hours waiting to talk to someone and then received it the next day. Most students in my class still haven't received theirs yet. My friend called and they said that they are behind right now. Even after you pass your boards, they have up to 30 days to issue us license numbers.

Thanks for the advice! My nerves always get the best of me so I'm trying to relax and have that positive attitude. I think deep down I'm a little scared to take my RN boards because I failed my PN boards the first time (to be fair I was out of school for a long time when I took my PN boards the first time). Do you have any advice on how to study? I've been just focusing on doing UWorld and ATI. My plan was to take the UWorld self assessment tomorrow around the time I would be taking my NCLEX, focus on my weak areas, then practice questions up until Wednesday afternoon. I wasn't planning on doing any Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read my post :) I graduated nursing school in the middle of May and have completed Virtual ATI. Our school drilled ATI down our throats so I was using that as my primary study tool. I received my "Green Light" June 1st and have been doing some of the review assessments that they recommend. I'm scoring around 76-85% on those review assessments. I scored an 80% on the Comprehensive Predictor with VATI which gives me a 99% of passing. Since June 2nd, I began using UWorld to study because I've heard awesome things about it and honestly I think it will reduce test day nerves since it's set up like the NCLEX. I've been scoring around 66%-70% on the tests with the QBank. I just received my ATT today and I'm taking my NCLEX next week! Since scheduling my date, I'm a bag of nerves. I'm still going through the UWorld Qbank and doing some random assessments on ATI. I guess I'm feeling Thursday is too soon but I feel like with my scores I'm ready. Does anyone have any advice on how to alleviate some of the nervousness I'm feeling? I really want to go into the test center knowing "I've got this."

Hello- I graduated on May 17th 2018 from nursing school *yay*. Our school submitted our information to the PA SBON on May 25th 2018 and we have yet to receive our ATT. I had already submitted my application to Pearson Vue and the SBON in March of this year. Has anyone else not received their ATT yet in PA?? If you did, how long did it take for you to get it? Any advice on how to get it sooner?
