  1. Wow. Well I live in San Diego county and I can imagine myself sitting in my care and having it take me 45 minutes to drive 10 miles. I would be the only babbling brook. Thinking about the pages and intercoms.. funny I had never thought of them before now. I hear them but I never gave them a thought as to distracting or annoying. I like to insight so far. What about client education? I woould imagine that Home Health Nurses spend a greatdeal of time educating patients.
  2. Your answers are very helpful. Thank you again. We are not done though...:) What is the Environment like in Home health? How about work place issues? I know it's two questions but I think they are kinda related.
  3. Documentation, how is different from the Acute care setting? I also have seen "OASIS" a lot when I have read some of the posts. What is that?
  4. Not sure if this went through so I am resending... How is the care coordinated? What are the roles of the other team members? Thanks, Cathi
  5. Thank you so much. 1) What types of patients do you get?
  6. Hello all you HHN's out there. I am a RN working on my BSN and I need to interview a Home Health Nurse. My assignment is: What types of clients, coordination, roles of otherteam players and client education. Compare differences in documentation, environment, work place issues and nursing care in acute care versus home health setting. Does anyone want to assist me, volunteer info, help? Thanks, Cathi
  7. Hello, I am trying to get some info about what is the role of a PHN? I am a student in a BSN program and I must compare HHN, PHN, and community Health Nurses. Thanks for any input that you can give.
  8. I think that if you told your client and her lazy husband that you were going to ask to be taken off of this case, ie: quit.. they would straighten up. You are being taken advantage of people because you are allowing them to do it. Since you have already paid for the cleaning supplies... buy a litter box and bring it with you. ( don't forget the scooper) Tell them that you will no longer clean the cat crap, you will not clean the litter box and you will no longer be doing chores that are not in your job description. If they do not like it... you will quit this assignment. Honey, there is always another job out there for CNA's.
  9. Wow, sounds familiar. With the going "Live", Kaiser any chance? I work at Kaiser San Diego. PACU cirrently.
  10. Hi, I am actually looking for guidance. I have an interview for an assistant department administrator position. I have been a nurse for 5 years. I look at people that I trained who are now in Mgt. and I wonder if I really want the position or do I just feel like I am getting left behind. Is this normal? What is it like being an asst. Mgr in an exceptionally busy private hospital or medical facility? What should I expect? Thanks,I liik forward to your responses.
  11. I have known several nurses who graduated from Maric. They passed the Boards too. The cost is a factor. I think that they are a diploma Nurse so you do not earn an Associates degree. So you don't really need to worry about transferring credits.. just earn them somewhere else. It is an accelerated program so I think that it might be a bit more challenging actually. I agree go in with your eyes open but it is a viable option.
  12. Hi, I too graduated from Grossmont college. What year? I graduated in 2001. Maybe we know eachother. Cathi
  13. Hi, I was reading your post because I started taking my prereqs at Chaffey . Thought that I would go to nursing school but moved to San Diego.. Anyway, I enjoyed that school. Is Mr. Boring still teaching Anatomy and Physiology? I am writing to ask you about being an OR tech. My son is thinking about the training program. I can't really tell him much about the daily duties of the job. Can you, fill me in on the details, please? Thank you, cathi
  14. Hi, I am hoping that someone will fill me in on the daily duties of a recovery room nurse. I am an ICU nurse recovering from a back injury. I have been trying to find a position that won't require as much heavy lifting. I know Nicu,Peds, etc.. but those opportunities have not yet presented themselves. The timing is perfect for this recovery room position. How much do nurses lift in the recovery room (assuming there is not a lift team) ? Thanks for you insight. Cathi
  15. Hello everyone, I am trying to decide which online program to sign up with for my Rn to BSN. like many of you. Actually, I am now driving myself crazy. I live in CA and I have been on the CA BRN website and they list only a few schools that they are accredited with ( I guess). U of P, Cal State Fullerton, etc.. My question is since I am going to be attending via online I think that I should have so many more options. Will the state of CA recognize my BSN if I get it through say U of WY, or TESC, like some many of you? Once I have my BSN I do plan of continuing on for my MSN/NP will my degree be recognized for entry into a CA NP program if I get it from a school that is not listed on their website? Thanks for your help. I love the idea of U of P for the convienence and reputation but I never liked group projects in school... so I may not like U of P and since it is so expensive I don't want to pay for it and then find out that I don't like it. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks
  16. Hi this question is about continuing education. However I wanted advice from nurses in CA. I live in Oceanside. I want to continue my education and get my BSN...preferably online. The Ca State board of registered nurses accredits only certain schools. ( Cal state fullerton, University of Phoenix, etc..) My question is: Can I attend an out of state university( online) for my BSN and have it reccognized in CA. What am I looking for when I am shopping for a school? Should I only choose a school that is listed on the CA BRN website? Thanks you,
  17. Hi, I graduated from the Grossmont College nursing program in 2001. I loved the program. I was also accepted into S.D. City as well as a couple of others and I needed to make the same decision that you are having to make. I ultimately decided on Grossmont and I am glad that I did. I would recomend it. I felt very prepared and I passed the boards the first time. Good luck.
  18. Hi, I live in Oceanside. The job opportunities are plentiful, however the pay scale in San Diego county in much lower than in Orange county or northern CA. The housing is very expensive! I agree, the school system is bad. It is even worse in surrounding Vista Unified school dist. Oceanside is working on improving it's reputation and I think schools. Illegal immigration is a real problem here. Traffic is really bad, but hey, the weather is great! Take the blinders off when you are looking for a place to live. Good Luck.
  19. I don't know which hormones cause it,( progesterone, estrogen or testosterone) but I for one am still convinced that pregnancy contributed to it. I used to have to get perms, and my hair would not hold a curl, now 4 kids later it takes me an hour and a half to straighten my curly hair!!
  20. Hi, I am still trying to figure out which school to attend. I want the convience of online though, I like study groups. I do not like group projects. How is your schooling going for you so far? Would you reccommend this program or is it too soon to tell? I live in Ca BTW.
  21. My hair did the same thing. I have always blamed it on hormones because I started breaking out and my hair went from striaght to frizzy to super curly. I was around 27 and had 3 kids by then. I do think that it is related to hormones. I have never heard of anyone else going through it though besides me.. Yea, I am not alone.
  22. Please, do tell
  23. Please, give considerable thought as to what speciality to choose to work in. I am a nurse trying to return to the ICU after a severe back injury from lifting. I had no prior injuries. If you already have a weak back or prone to injury... maybe babies, or case mgmt or something. There is an incredible amount of lifting where I work, and the patients seem to be getting bigger and bigger. Goog luck.
  24. Hi Papaw John, I enjoyed your explanation on A-lines so much that I am asking if you will please give us your breakdown of a Swan-Ganz or other PAP lines. I appreciate your simplicity yet through descriptions as well as your " little jargon" hopefully you have one of those for these lines too. Thank you, Catfish RN
