  1. I always stick up for what is right, I am not rude about it but when you are told that you are working as a PRN with prior obligations for a shift you never said you would work it is not a good situation to be in. My team lead was off today and when I called her ( I didnt know she was off, she said her phone was dying and got disconnected). I did go above her, not to be malicious but to make sure I didn't do something wrong. You are right, I will not apologize, was not planning on apologizing but I am reasonable and will state facts...I dont want this to happen to anyone else or myself. Honestly if worse came to worse I would have worked ( I would NEVER abandon a patient) but in my eyes that just shows that what she did was OK which it is NOT, if anyone should have taken it, it should have been my Team Lead (in this desperate time).
  2. I currently work at a local hospital. I work PRN and requirements are 1 shift a week, which I do. I do also help out with call as needed ( I give them days I can take call and they can put me on, for example last Tuesday evening I was on call) and help cover full time employees as they need (taking a shift this week for one on Thursday). Last week I got a text from my TL who stated that they needed coverage for Sunday October 13, 7a-1p, normally no problem whatever I would take it, but but this weekend I have a midterm for my FNP program scheduled between 7am-3pm. I texted her that I had my exam, then yesterday I got a text from her to myself, another PRN employee and a FT employee stating "Hi. so no one has picked up 1st call Sun Oct 13 from 7a-1pm, Everyone else has signed up for their fair share. Sorry but someone has to take it our we will have to draw one of your names..." I texted her again that I had midterms, no answer, then this morning I get a text "Happy Friday! Since no one covered call on Sun Oct 13 7a-1p names were put in and & MINE was drawn...(P.S. there is A PART TIME RN (unnamed) who mentioned she wants the call but she has taken her fair share, but it is possible she will take it, it is her birthday weekend". I texted my team lead again "I have a midterm exam" she texted me "sorry..." I was fuming at this point...there are some full timer and part timers who did NOT take their fair share of call ON top of that WHY should I have to contact the nurse who wants it,( I don't have time to play games) why didn't she ask her to begin with?!?! Needless to say I didn't contact the PART TIME nurse, I went to the director and texted her what I was texted. An hour later that nurse that wanted it, texted me asking if she could have it...I said yes. I feel this is a freaking GAME, so immature. I am PRN I am in an FNP program, and work 2 other jobs. I am the FIRST to be cancelled and sent home WHY should I be put in a position like this?? need advice. I haven't heard from the director yet but I will be meeting with her when I go back to work. I guess I am just confused on how you can just put someone on the schedule like that, let alone a PRN person??!!??
  3. They are filling from outside
  4. Not yet...i keep looking everyday
  5. I just think that they tell me they are hiring someone outside of the hospital and i get totally looked over and I'm willing to take a full time position. So instead of having one of their own staff fill a position thats open and wanted that they hire outside...which to me makes no sense
  6. So I was hired on my unit 2 years ago, non benefitted but was told that I would be able to get full time hours. I do not need benefits so I thought it was a good fit. I am classified PRN but like I said I was to work full time hours non benefitted. Over the last 2 months I have been cancelled at least 1-2 times a week, so I do not get my hours, I used to work 36, now I am getting MAYBE 18?...also other PRN staff are getting cancelled, for example today 3 PRN nurses got cancelled. They are opening a position for another full time nurse...I asked my team lead should I apply for that position to get my hours? I was told they have someone to take that spot (guess there is a wait list to work here) I asked my team lead last night, if we are cancelling 3 people and I cant even get hours why would they consider filling a slot that they have been having to cancel staff already. I am thinking at this point I will just need to find another PRN job to subsidize my schedule, I try to be as flexible with my current place, they can schedule me mon-fri and I can work whenever ( I was told this was the best way I could get hours) yet I still continue to get cancelled, last week it was 2 days of my 3 day work week... I guess my dilemma is why would they staff a position that we have been cancelling current staff for and second I don't want to pick up another job but at this point I may have to.
  7. Yeah interesting and I am stunned, 8 years ICU nurse, with charge and rapid response, 4.0 BSN at USF none the less... got denied, didn't even get interviewed. Unreal was told my references should write and reflect my goals of my FNP aspirations... makes NO sense and I got a B in a microbiology class I took 10 years ago Not sure if I'd even consider reapplying to USF after this. I have been asked by current np students to write recommendation letters I NEVER stated their own personal goals in the letter.
  8. Thanks for your response. I did send them an email today, I know it is Saturday, to reach out to them. I feel like they are waiting for my final grades to be posted? Who knows...I'll keep you updated... congrats to all of you who have been accepted!
  9. Hmm ok so this is my situation, applied February 13, my nursingCAS application was 100% complete, still just says "verified" now I am reading posts for those who have been already notified of acceptace and interviews and I only see that my application has been under "review" since 2/23/2018...I emailed the program to follow up. I thought that they would close the application date which was March 15 THEN start reviewing their applications but from what others are saying this is not true. hmmm now I am really starting to wonder. HOWEVER I am in my last semester of the BSN program at USF...not sure if they are waiting for that? I am a nurse of 8 years, critical care, charge nurse, leadership and volunteer roles, 3.9 GPA...so I am just kinda losing sleep over this one...
