Hiring manager offered position, HR said no and won't tell me why.
I said "maybe I'm wrong". Your posts are so encouraging, gracias.

Hiring manager offered position, HR said no and won't tell me why.
I was under the impression that bad mouthing a previous employee was illegal? Maybe I'm wrong... Yes I told my references and I know it wasn't any of them. I am close with all of them.

I actually totally think this is what happened. May is not a good time to apply and interview! A recruiter from another hospital (same company) had called me in regards to another pcu position at another hospital and I told him I was offered a position by another hiring manager but hadn't heard from HR in a week and a half, he told me that she was just wrapping up a large new grad hire. Make no sense to me why they would give to a new grad over someone who has at least some experience. It could have been something else but I kind of think this is what happened. Would have just been nice to know definitively.

Haha, glad I wasn't the only one seeing that. Thanks Klone! :)

First, I have never worked at that hospital or any of it's sister hospitals. I have never done clinicals there and have no prior affiliation. Second, I only contacted HR once 2 weeks after my interview after having thought I had the job per the hiring manager. I'm the one that had to reach out to HR, otherwise I wouldn't have heard yes or no either way. Who said I kept calling and "bothering them"? It's been let go and I've moved on. I was just completely confused and asked for advice.

Thing is I have close personal relationships with everyone I used and none were called, like I've said.

That could very well be true! Yes, a red flag for sure Hopefully the next interview (and hopefully offer) goes more smoothly! I'm a bit nervous now though lol.

Good advice! Thank you! Really appreciate it. :)

I agree with you. Doesn't make much sense to me, like if it was a more qualified candidate, just let me know! Instead I feel left in the dark about what went wrong, but I'm over it. Wasn't meant to be and will hopefully lead me to something better.

Thank you so much! It's rough getting back into the hospital when you don't have much acute care, after being in public health for a year. I think I've applied to over 400 positions (seriously lol) Had some calls today, hopefully I'll find something soon. :)

They send out an "email reference", where they email all of my references, rather than calling. I have very close relationships with everyone I put. None of them were called, so I'm betting it's something else. I think it was given to an internal or part of a new grad residency hire, which this specific recruiter was apparently just wrapping up the week before I was told no.

It was actually HR who wouldn't say why, honestly she seemed to know nothing about me when I called. She asked me to remind her which position it was for, which hospital, which manager... she didn't seem to look up anything in the computer, just automatically said they wouldn't be proceeding. I talked to a co-worker who had an interview with the same company doing prn work and she had called HR 10 mins before me to check on her status and they told her that their system was down, so HR was trying to recall from memory... I thought that was interesting. I do think it was something internal and nothing about me as a candidate. The recruiter even told me to apply to more positions? Still makes zero sense lol.

Sorry that happened but glad it worked out in the long run. I too am thinking it was something internal.

I've also just spent $450 on nursing licenses (multi-state and CA), so it's getting a bit tight when you're in public health in Florida lol.

I have a nursing license pretty much everywhere but NY :-/ Thank you for letting me know!

I went to school in another city and am pretty new to the area so I don't think that was it. Nothing negative to say about me honestly, at least that I can think of lol! Relatively new to the state. Oh well, thanks!

I do already have a job (they know I'm looking to get back into the hospital and are completely fine with keeping me employed while I try) but I did apply for an apartment in the new city (which is only 30 mins away anyways) since my lease is about to be up anyways. So thankfully I'm not without a job, just frustrating trying to get back into the hospital after doing public health, plus being really excited that I thought I had the job lol. Oh well. That is probably what happened though.

Lesson learned for a newer nurse such as myself. Still finding it to be unprofessional, but it is what it is. Thanks! :)
