  1. Hi Everyone, I am looking for only true experiences in the BMCC or other nursing programs. Here is a place where you can vent your frustrations and try to figure out alternative ways to succeed if you are struggling. I had a negative experience in BMCC. I had a 4.0 and I withdrew from the nursing program. I was shocked at the conduct of the professor for fundamentals Nur 112. She was terrible and unprofessional. She came to class 15 minutes late each time and then told students they had to be on time for clinicals. She didn't teach and most of her review were things learned in Anatomy. Her exams were difficult and none of the programs PREP U or Adaptive Quizzing was helpful in preparing for them. She just told you to focus on certain tables in the textbook, but didn't teach any of the material. She didn't use powerpoint at all. She spent her time reading the tables from the text, but no teaching. How can you learn the material necessary to be a nurse if this is the foundation course? I was very disappointed in this program. I even saw students who did well on exams yelled at in their first clinical. We will make mistakes, but if we have better instructors we can minimize these errors. I suggest investigating all programs and try to get testimonies from the students themselves to avoid these pitfalls and professors who don't teach. Please share and let me know how you are overcoming any issues you have in your programs.
  2. You already shared your experience and you graduated years ago. Defensive? LOL! I'm sorry, but whatever you say does not phase me at all. I have a voice and I am using it. Your experience is not up to date. If I was looking into a program I would also want to hear the negative experiences as well as postive to weigh my pros and cons. You are saying the same thing I said. DO your research on all programs!!!Of course whats right for one is not necessarily right for the other. Please stop replying to my posts.
  3. I am not being rude or snide. You are contradicting yourself. If everyone is entitled to their opinion why are you so quick to disagree. It is an opinion based on my experience. You are trying to have a debate, while I am stating my experience. You are trying to point out all the things you believe are wrong in my statements. It is valid like you said. Why are you arguing? You just said its ok to share, but you are trying to dismantle my experience as if you know exactly how this program is going. Things change and people change. No one is going to be discouraged. If you want to pursue a career you will. It is more than fair to alert people to information they will need before they make a decision. There are a lot of better programs out there. Also, most of the RN's and doctors I spoke to agree that having some medical experience can give you a leg up. I am not pulling that out of the air. I have no idea why you even responded to my comments in the first place. I suggest everyone again please do your research and don't just trust what people are telling you about ANY PROGRAM. Talk to people in the hospitals, volunteer and make sure you know what you are going into. In addition make sure you know who are the professors!!! Question everything!
  4. I am speaking from my point of view and everyone should hear different opinions. Everyone should investigate the program to make sure they are a right fit for it instead of wasting their time and money. Of course the program is challenging, thats not my point! You are stating the obvious. We know what nursing prepares us for and obviously it is a serious job! Good for you that you graduated with a 3.92 GPA, slow clap. Professors can act differently depending on who they are dealing with. I have seen this many times and people have different experiences. You might believe she is wonderful, but others do not. It's ok to have a difference in opinion. I see your opinion throughout this thread..please allow others to speak. I didn't see any EMT's or medical assistants who dropped out or didn't pass.
  5. Kaplan is not hard, just the grammar section. Most people fail that section. Look at my comment below. Be careful with BMCC. I suggest you try to get some medical experience before entering this program. The exams in fundamentals are hard and they require a math exam. You have 3 chances in fundamentals 1 to pass the exam. If you don't, you are out of the program. Take the dosages course very seriously. I would never return to BMCC and the professors are TERRIBLE! They are very unprofessional and try to single you out. I have seen good students get slammed and disrespected. Just investigate everything before making a decision. I saw most of the medical assistants/EMT's do better in this program.
  6. I left BMCC's nursing program. I did the readings and I saw the writing on the wall. Try not to attend the Evening program. The professor, is terrible. She comes to class late, teaches nothing and expects you to learn everything from the textbook. If you don't have a medical background don't bother with this program. Not all people who don't do well on the exams looked for so called shortcuts!! Most people admitted to the program have a high average 3.7 to 4.0. However the prereqs DO NOT prepare you for the type of exams in Fundamentals of nursing. I suggest you do your research before applying or accepting unless you have the experience as a medical assistant, CNA, EMT etc... It will give you a leg up in the program and you will be used to the material. I am disappointed in BMCC and I can see why they hide who your professor will be and what the program truly requires. Don't be fooled and investigate these schools. Some are just trying to get your money. Be careful.
