Forsyth Tech 2018 Practical Nursing Program
Hey everyone, Both main and Stokes will all be in the same auditorium. We all receive the same information, there will just be two separate lines to stand in when you get there to sign your name.

Hey Nessa7, The book that is required by the school is called Calculating with Confidence, and it is super helpful with math and dosage calculations!

Hey RNV2022, I don't have a syllabus, but I am not sure if it would help even if I did. There was a Facebook group made for the 2017 LPN class, and the students who were on main campus would post about things that the Stokes campus either hadn't learned yet or had already learned, and finally everyone figured out that both campuses are on different schedules and have different syllabuses. From what I've heard, the biggest thing that should be studied is dosage calculations. If you are able to go ahead and get a Calculating with Confidence textbook, even if it's an older one, I would recommend doing that because it's super helpful!

In the first initial meeting we had, they told us about how our names needed to match on every document that we turned in, I am not sure about our addresses though. I am pretty sure that our name that is on our CNA registry listing has to match what is on our drivers license, but that's all I can remember. I didn't pay much attention to this part of our meeting because it didn't pertain to me, but I do remember a lot of questions being asked about this topic. There was a due date for all of the documents that we needed to turn it, and I want to say that it was at the end of June or beginning of July. It is a lot to get done if you have some major changes to make such as your name. You have to have your vaccinations done and turned in by a deadline, you have to get a physical and it has to be turned in, and also your CPR listing and CNA listing has to be turned in I think all by the same deadline. You also have to purchase insurance through Forsyth Tech, which I beleive was $18, and that has to be uploaded to Castle Branch by a certain day. You will also have a drug test that you have to take, and that also has a deadline. There are obviously a lot of deadlines, but it's nothing to stress about! They give you enough time between our first meeting and the final deadline to get everything done.

Hey RenN86, From what I was told, financial aid will only cover your books. You have to have your lab kit, uniforms, and books ordered and paid for by a specific date because they expect you to have all of your supplies by the first day of class.

I bought my bundle from Textbook Brokers, which is a store that sells college textbooks, and they can even take financial aid, but I am not sure how that works. I bought through them because they were having a tax free weekend, and Forsyth wouldn't match that price, but I am 99% positive that I received every book I needed. Elsevier, the company that creates the nursing textbooks, provides access codes with some of the books, but I do not think each textbook comes with an access code. I was told that we would need to bring each book with us to class, which I don't know if that was true or not, so the access codes aren't a necessity. Last year, a sales rep from Elsevier came to one of our mandatory meetings and explained to us how we could access everything online. Here is the list of books that were required last year (there were also extra optional books that you could buy so I am not sure what the name of those are.): Msoby's Nursing Drug Reference (My bundle came with the 2018 version) Concepts for Nursing Practice (Second Edition) Calculate with Confidence (7th Edition, my bundle came with the 7th edition, but in one meeting, the teacher said that they still use the 6th edition, so I bought that one also) Basic Pharmacology for Nurses (17th Edition) Fundamental Concepts and Skills for Nursing (5th Edition) Nursing Interventions & Clinical Skills (6th Edition) Introduction to Maternity and Pediatric Nursing (7th Edition) Medical-Surgical Nursing Concepts and Practice (3rd Edition) There were girls in one of the meetings that asked if they could use textbooks they had bought off of a former LPN student from the year before, and the teachers said that was fine, and they also said they actually use some of previous years textbooks (which hopefully won't get confusing). When you go to your first mandatory meeting, you should get your list for every textbook that is needed. Before this meeting, I also heard that the bundle was $1000. I am not sure where that information came from, but I am also pretty sure (don't quote me on this) that there are additional books we have to buy for the second semester, and I am not sure how much they will cost if we do have to buy them.

Forsyth Tech 2018 Practical Nursing Program
Hey everyone, I was accepted into the LPN night/weekend class last year, but unfortunately I had to drop the classes because of a death in the family. I am applying again this year with 116 points, and I was accepted last year with 97 points. Based off of last year, I got my letter in the mail before my status on TechLink changed. The deadline last year was February 16th, and I didn't get my letter in the mail until the beginning of April. After I got accepted, I had to attend a mandatory meeting, and this meeting covers everything from the vaccinations that are required, the supplies that I needed, and even how your name had to appear on your SS card and drivers License. It is best to go ahead and prepare to set some money aside for nursing because there are a few expenses that I didn't expect. You have to buy your uniforms from the Scrub Wagon in Winston, and they all have to be embroidered, and if the shoe policy is the same as last year, you have to wear black leather shoes for clinical. You have to set up a Castle Branch account, which is almost $100, and that is where you upload documents to. You also have to order your lab kit online, and after shipping and tax, I want to say that the price was around $130-$150 for the kit. If the book list hasn't changed, Forsyth Tech sells the books in a bundle, and they were close to $400. Then you will need to buy your supplies which include a stethoscope, pen light, and bandage scissors. I am not sure if this year will be the same as last when it comes to meetings, books, supplies, etc. but I am hoping this information will give y'all a better idea of what to expect!
