I promised myself to share my study ''tips'' if I passed the Hesi A2 Exam. So... here I am!! How hard is the exam? Since I over studied' in my opinion it was not hard, it was basic overall with no tricky questions. How long did I study? Well, I originally wanted to take the Exam in September (studied 1 1/2 months) but life happened and I postpone taking the exam to mid Feb. I gave myself 1 1/2 months to study hard core. About 4 hours M-F and up to 6-8 hrs Sat & Sun. I HAD to pass my 1ST try because I had not time to retake the exam. Resources I used? Mainly used Hesi Admission Assessment 4TH Edition and Pocket Prep APP(ALL Q'S) Other resources I used for practice questions or overview: Hesi A2 Secrets - (Ok, overall) McGraw-Hill's 3 Evolve Reach (Hesi A2) Practice Tests - (Very good for practice) Truvium Test Prep (Hesi A2) - (too detailed but good practice questions) All - Ready for the Hesi Study Guides - (expensive but it did help me with the science sections) Quizlet - I used this the last 2 days of studying (very helpful) - printout top 5 you can find/read all Allnurses blogs and YouTube videos (some more helpful than others) Any and all practice questions I could find online. Why so many Resources?? Because I'm crazy and I used every tip I found. I haven't been in school for a while, so I had to refresh on every subject and I know many people who have not been able to pass. How was the test overall? I was nervous at first but after seeing my score after finishing each section I became more at ease. They did allow us to have 2 pieces of scratch paper and pencil. I did take my time answering each question. We had 5 hours to complete 7 sections and I was going to take a break half way but I decided to just push through. I was so surprised with each high score I received, but I did study really hard. What did I score? Overall: 92.57% Reading Comp: 94% Grammar: 95% Vocab: 90% Math: 94% Biology: 96% Chemistry: 92% Anatomy & Physiology: 88% Breakdown: Reading Comp: I really didn't study much for this section. I just read over the study guides and did a few practice questions. Make sure you read the question carefully on the test. I took this section first on exam day, since it's long and tedious. It's 2 or 3 questions per passage and I was soooo done already, the passages were 3-5 paragraphs long. Grammar: At first I didn't think I had to study much for this section until I did some practice questions and didn't do so well. I would suggest making sure you know everything on the Hesi Book and PRACTICE!!! Know the HESI TIPS on the book too! Most questions were choosing the right/wrong sentence. Read out loud (whisper :) ) and slow. Vocab: Most questions (choosing what word goes best in this sentence format). Many were basic vocab and listed on the Hesi book. Use context clue. Math: I took this section 2ND and I felt it was easy but if you're not good at math do many practice questions. There is a calculator available (drop down) throughout the whole test. There are some fill in questions. Many word problems (read questions carefully!). Know ALL the metric table on the Hesi book. (top tips: KING HENRY DIED BY DRINKING CHOCOLATE MILK and the G drawing for GALLON (inside 4 Q(quarts), 8P(pints), 16(cups). Remember to reduce fractions! And double check answers. KNOW fractions and ratios!! I had 2 roman numeral questions. Biology: Know Basic info Water properties, cohesion, adhesion Know order of Hierarchic organization, most inclusive/restrictive Scientific Process (steps) Steps in Photosynthesis Asexual vs Sexual In other words, know everything on the Hesi book for this section, if you don't UNDERSTAND any section just review it further. Practice questions! I did get one questions about plants (what is the difference between animal cell and plant cell). Chemistry: Again, know everything on the Hesi book, basic questions. What is Tera? Body temp? Kelvin? Orbits? Period vs Rows? Atomic #? Reactants/Product side? What increases reaction rates? Why? Solute vs Solvent? Convert Avogadro # to decimal #. Know that Chemical Reactions look like. Covalent bond vs Ionic bond Intermolecular forces: which is stronger/weaker? Redox Stomach pH? Anatomy: Know everything in the Hesi book plus more Practice questions! Quizlet helped a lot. Body Planes vs sections Proximal vs Distal to what part of body. Mitosis Meiosis (start with/end with) Skin layers & Sebum & Mitosis location in skin Know all the systems Artery vs veins Heart flow and which side is stronger Muscle cells and contract Afferent vs Efferent Master Gland? Hypothalamus Job? Quadriceps? Nerves Whole blood %? External vs Internal Respiration Diaphragm during in/exhalation What does the urinary sys and male reproductive sys have in common? Vertebral column Different joints and examples Middle ear bones Earwax from? Hyoid bone? Popliteal vein/artery? Hormones Urinary system process Parasympathetic vs Sympathetic Osmosis vs diffusion Serotonin effects? Bone storage location Nutrient Absorption where? Ossification Bacterial Infection?
