  1. At the clinic where I work, we use NS/D5 as the primary. The chemo is hung as a secondary, except the ones the pharmacy sends up on its own primary tubing (taxol) then like barb said the ns is still the "main" primary but the taxol is luer locked to the most distal site... If the pt had a rxn the whole tubing wouldn't be taxol. I don't know if it is hosp. protocol or if that's just how they do it but I will find out.
  2. Hi! I'm a new nurse and I have taken a job in the outpt cancer clinic in a local hospital. I have been working there since last summer as a Nurse Tech. I absolutely love it! My coworkers are awesome and have been very helpful, but all the protocols, etc are very confusing and hard to keep track of... I am taking the two day chemotherapy/biotherapy course in sept. but I was hoping someone could tell me some books or online sites that they have found very useful... Or any words of advice for dealing with cancer pts/families would also be useful! I would appreciate it! Thanks!
  3. I work in a small outpatient cancer center on the chemo side. We only have one RN on the Radiation side also. I'm not really sure what her job description is supposed to be because we start their IVs and give blood, etc... if needed. As far as it being draining that's pretty much the same on the chemo side because we share several pts with them. I think it's sometimes very stressful because you can get attached to the pts and their families since you see them for weeks, months, etc... Maybe you could stay there until you could transfer to the chemo side.
  4. Hi! Here what you're looking for... I am a new grad. and I am working in an outpatient cancer clinic. This is the one that our hospital requires. http://onsopcontent.ons.org/education/distanceeducation/Chemo2Day/registration.shtml I am enrolled in a class in September. If you don't take one before then, I will let you know how it was. The nurses I work with said that it's pretty easy and the second day you take an open book test. There is also a ONC certification that you can get, but you have to have so many hours before you can take it. (for that you would look on the ONS website). Let me know if you need something else. Good luck!
