Okay, before you all think I need To pay more attention in school for not knowing what ProBNP is, I do. But here's the situation- I have A family member who has end-stage renal disease, hypertension, and hyperparathyroidism. Today this family member was complaining of tightness in their chest, so I took them to the ER. Both EKGs came out fine. Blood was drawn and the doc came back and said everything was fine and discharged us. But I was Looking at my family member's paperwork, and their BNP is 3,996! How could the doctor not mention this? Obviously I am Still a nursing student and don't know the ins-and-outs of cardiac just yet. The doctor is referring them to a cardiologist this week to make sure "nothing more is going on." Here are the results: EKG: Normal Troponin: ProBNP: 3,996 Im not completely sure if any of the underlying diseases have anything to do with the BNP elevation or not. should I be Worried about congestive heart failure at this point?
