  1. Guys just keep on trying & don't stop. I found employment after 4 months of looking for one. The key is persistence.
  2. Any exam will be hard if you don't study. :wink2:
  3. I am an RN with a medical background & I have many friends who have successfully transitioned from the role of a doctor to that of a nurse without any problem. I believe that those you mention are isolated cases. In those cases, I feel it is not because some skill is lacking but some have a hard time accepting or understanding their new nursing role as they have been accustomed to their doctor role for many years. This is true for some consultants who have practiced for so many years. But aside from these minority of cases, most MDRN's that I know of have adjusted with no problem at all.
  4. The PRC, CHED and PNA should already know this by now (Oversupply of nurses) & they should take measures to regulate & maintain the quality of the nurses that we produce.
  5. It doesn't sound negative at all, it actually sounds like a bed of roses if you think of the situation here in the Philippines.
  6. I am an MDRN as well but I doubt it if they will credit experience as a doctor. Their policy right now is to have a 1 year nursing experience. Better to send the council an e-mail.
  7. In my opinion there is no such thing as "the best review center". It all depends on the person whether he/she has the right study habits & how hard he/she studies.
  8. Because there are no opportunities for them in the Philippines, it's simple as that. And when I say opportunities these are job opportunities that offer reasonable compensation enough to actually raise a family.
  9. Yes I understand, It is just my opinion that it's better not to lump people in a category or label people. I don't see why we can just say "nurses with attitude problems". It's this labeling that gives an impression & is imprinted to other people's mind which leads to a preconceived judgement to a certain group of people. It may sound idealistic but I really feel that this sort of thing leads to discrimination. I hope you guys understand the point i'm trying to get across.
  10. Here in the Philippines the rich get richer & the poor get poorer. The problem with some Filipinos is that they sometimes are too scared to stand up for their rights & they just go on accepting the measly pay that a certain company gives them. And it's really bizarre that there seems to be no anti-discrimination law out there (In the Philippines) that I know of that protects people from being discriminated from work because of age, sex, creed, religion or physical appearance. A job advertisement in Philippine newspapers will ordinarily go like this: Wanted female secretary, attractive & pleasing personality B.S. (place course here) graduate Age 20-35. Preferably 5'7" & above. Single Please attach a colored 2 x 2 picture on your resume
  11. I agree on all counts. It's ridiculous that a volunteer nurse has to pay a certain amount of fee for her/him to give voluntary service. The government should definitely take measures to regulate the production of nurses. It's actually these new nurses who suffer when they find out that employment is hard to get by after graduation. They then resort to work as volunteer nurses which has of little benefit since most countries or agencies don't accept this as "hospital experience". And then they also come to the realization that they are in for the long haul because of the retrogression. And don't get me started with the government . Health care, education, integrity & service to the people, they have forgotten all about this for quite some time now. :grn:
  12. I don't know why we should label a certain group & generalize the attributes of that particular group. Whether 1st courser or 2nd courser let's not generalize. It just breeds discrimination.
  13. Try calling them up & ask them to send you a letter again containing the result of your exam. Try sending them a message through FAX also.
  14. First you have to clear out the distractions. Inform people at the place you live in to understand that it is important not to disturb you while studying. If possible, go to a place to study where there is no access to television & internet. Discipline & condition yourself to concentrate on the topic you are studying. Understand first the topic you are studying and then memorize the things that should be memorized (the must know stuff etc).
  15. Guys you just have to be pro active and don't stop looking. There may be some new hospitals opening that you may not know of in your vicinity. Just scour your area and go farther out till you find a hospital with a job vacancy. Good luck!
  16. I also encountered this with a particular hospital. They told me that they don't hire nurses 35 years old above. Fortunately I am below that cut off but still I could not understand why they enforce such a ridiculous rule.
  17. Thanks for the responses suzanne, lawrence & silverdragon!
  18. If I have already taken the CGFNS exam, that's different from the CES right? Thanks very much.....wow I've been waiting & the agency didn't even tell us that we actually need CES, I could've done that a long time ago.
  19. My NCLEX expires on Oct, 2009. So i actually have to apply for CES also? The agency didn't tell me anything about that. I believe I'm at the stage where the USCIS have received my I-140. Sorry if i don't seem to know what i'm talking about, i'm in the process of learning more in these forums. Thank again suzanne, this forum is indespensible.
  20. I see, actually I do not have an SSN#. Well i am supposed to be employed in Florida as promised by my agency but before hooking up with this agency i applied for licensure with the CA BON wherein I already received a letter of passing. So before my NCLEX expires what should i do? Apply for licensure for examination for Florida where I am supposed to be employed in the future or in another state where a hard copy of the license is issued? Thanks again!
  21. I'm already licensed in the state of CA, what are the steps to be taken foe me to be licensed in another state let's say Florida? A link or explanation is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  22. Whenever I browse these forums (which is once in a blue moon) I can't help but feel a bit sad & depressed since there seems to be no positive developments regarding the retrogression situation. I just see bad news on top of bad news regarding my plans to work in the US. My papers have been filed by my agency since April & i'm bracing myself for the long haul. I'm just so pressured to already work in the US to provide adequately for my family and i really need this to happen already. With the rate that it's going, it seems that I have to wait for at least two years or maybe more for that to happen. Is there at least anything or anyone out there that could reassure me with whatever facts that even with the long wait I will one day eventually be able to work there in the US?
  23. Yikes, thanks for the advice suzanne4!
  24. Hi suzanne4, what exactly is a guarantor? Why is it a bad thing? I'm asking because I have with me an agency contract & it does have a space for a guarantor to sign at the end page. Thanks!
  25. I took the cgfns exam last June of 2006 and up to now I still have no certificate. I have received my Visascreen certificate though. I that normal? So should I be calling them up & follow up my CGFNS certification?
