Hey guys - looking for some help here. I'm an ER nurse and this year is my second year teaching a court mandated 48 hour DUI class. Obviously, people don't want to be here and make a dozen excuses on why it wasn't their fault. Most of the time. Anyway, I show a lot of video content... which is great, but the nurse I replaced was in her sixties or seventies, and it looks like that's how old my tapes are for the course too. I think some of the content is great, but being so dated, I know it's auper hard for people to take an interest. Does anyone else out there teach a similar course or have any suggestions for updating my content? I'd love to make it more relatable which means more recent content. I'd even be willing to take a small portion out of my own check to cover the cost of updating. Any help would be great! Thanks so much.

I've reached to my audiologist, and unfortunately its something that really needs to go through your audiologist because of distribution, and the customization. They really should be doing more research, because they're the one who should be able to get them for you. I've gone through the department of vocational services for reimbursement as well. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Hey - another RN with bilateral hearing aids here. I'm going to be honest with you, I've been bullied pretty badly at my current job because of this, but I'm holding out the hope that these people are innately miserable and this has no real reflection on the nursing community as a whole. My mom is profoundly hard of hearing and is one of the most amazing nurses I know. I say go straight for RN. If your hearing issue is whats concerning you and holding you back, don't let it. There have been so many advancements, it's crazy. I use an amplified stethoscope with special ear pieces I got from my audiologist. I've been told by people without a hearing problem that its infinitely better than the Littman cardiology, but that's just their opinion. I love it though, it's the best tool. You might run into people who doubt you, but you'll always have someone who has your back. My coworkers are aware of my disability and there are a select few who would help me at the drop of a hat, no questions asked. You'll learn your own techniques and how to excel in the field, don't let it hold you back!

I didn't realize how true this was until I read it! I too have extreme anxiety, and often suffer from panic attacks. The fast pace of the ER keeps my mind off my anxiety until I start to slow down. Keep your head up, don't let anyone get to you. All you have to do is find your right fit!

Hey guys! first post here. I'm a new nurse, I've been working as an RN for 20 months, and have been at my current job in the ER for the last 14 months. I'm currently suspended pending investigation for an IV infiltrate of saline, and also for being on my phone at work... On top of that though, I recently made management aware of the constant harassment and discrimination I've faced since I've started, and now have to file a formal complaint. I hate to even call it rumors because its escalated way beyond that at his point, but people are under the impression I'm having an affair with one of the married doctors. In addition, I have a significant hearing deficiency and wear bilateral hearing aids, something for which I have been ridiculed for pretty consistently. I obviously should have filed a complaint a while ago, but honestly was terrified of retaliation and stirring the pot. Long story short, I'm definitely being targeted, and still don't know what the status of my employment is at present. My character is being called in to question, and it's really making it hard for me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like I'm being made to think I'm crazy and wildly unprofessional.. I honestly would just like to hear from other people who've been in the situation. How did you handle it? What was the final result? Has it grossly affected your career now? Thanks guys. -EJ
