most of my classmates for the MSN program found their own placement, but APU tries to find whoever doesn't find their own some kind of placement but it might be far away from you.

Placements change every year and they appear to be getting worse, but APU is not completely to blame since COVID made this even harder. However, other private schools that charge a bunch of money like APU actually pay hospitals to ensure clinical placement but for some reason, APU does not pay hospitals despite the high cost of tuition. For the BSN portion, they should find you everything it may not be good but they will find something. The MSN portion is a different story. I don't know anyone who hasn't had to find their own placement for the MSN part.

As a current student who once believed this program was worth the cost, I urge anyone considering to applying please DON'T. Do yourself a favor and apply to any Cal state accelerated program. APU's ELM program is filled with "professors" who are recent graduates and barely have any work experience as nurses let alone teaching. You are paying for people to read your power point slides that you will have to spend your own time understanding. I have had an extremely difficult time understanding how they justify their high-cost tuition as a supposed "Christian" institution. You are basically paying 10X tuition costs for a religion class being added to the regular nursing curriculum. I've compared my curriculum with peers attending CSULA and CSULB and could not believe they were getting the same if not better education with better clinical placements at a fraction of the cost. I know what many of you are thinking "but I can't wait that long to be accepted at a Cal state". TRUST me you will regret attending APU. Of course, it's easier to get accepted here, you are paying your way ahead of others. Unless you come from a rich family that is paying your tuition and are okay with teaching yourself apply elsewhere.

Hello everyone! Does anyone know the date of our orientation? Thanks.

So unfortunately I was told by a counselor that the list of scholarships I had we are unable to apply for until after we complete our NCLEX. As of right now, I do not know of any scholarships we qualify for that we could apply before starting the program. Does anyone know anyone in the program already that could provide tips on what material (Physio, Anat, etc..) we could be reviewing before we start the program in order to be better prepared?

Thanks Soma122. I guess Ill find out soon I accepted the loan a few days ago ill keep checking. Regarding scholarships, I was told by a few students that are already in the program that we can't receive nor qualify for any until we complete a few semesters and have grades to show. Most of the scholarships I've researched only apply after we've completed our BSN portion of the program. If you anyone finds good scholarships to apply for please let me know as well. I will be posting a list I have at home of a few scholarships when I get back home.

Hi Soma122 sorry to hear about the loan situation. IF you don't mind me asking, when/ how did they change their decision for grad plus loan? I ask because I recently accepted my loans in the APU student center, but they haven't sent me any letters or emails yet stating changes to the amount or saying I'm not approved. Any info helps thanks!

Hi @aschreiman do you have any pointers on how to get the full 20,500 for the federal loan? when I filled out my FASFA it stated at the bottom that my estimated amount was 12,500. not sure if thats official because it said it takes a few days to process, but I'm wondering if when you submitted FASFA did it provide you with an estimated amount of federal loans you could receive? Thank you!

@hca4 This is what I've found out about our loan options from a previous student for APU ELM program: 1. Federal unsubsidized Loan (6% interest rate) is our first best option because we're NOT allowed to get subsidized loan (no interest till after graduation). This is due to the program labeling us graduate students even during the BSN portion. Max amount we can receive for the Federal unsubsidized Loan (6% interest rate) is $20,500. 2. Next best option if you need more money after the first loan is called a graduate plus loan (7-8% interest) the amount you are able to receive depends on your personal financial info. 3. Last option find private loans... Side Note: tuition for the first year (BSN portion) is $36,595. We do not qualify for aid or grants from the school during this portion of the program.

Does anyone have any advice regarding financial aid and loans? I have a meeting at APU with a financial aid advisor next week, but I was told by someone from a previous class they simply make sure you complete your FASFA.

I did single space letter format with all deans info on the top left corner and addressed the letter to the dean of ELM nursing program.

My recommenders sent their form via email. I'm applying to Azusa campus only.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I submitted my application a few days ago and received a login. When I look there is a green circle and says application complete. Does anyone know if these means they received all my documents (transcripts and letters of recommendations) ?

Hey guys! just had a quick question for anyone who's submitted their application already. Did you include a full resume including work experience not related to the medical field? I ask because I have never worked in a hospital, but was considering of describing my various volunteer experience as a statement of experience or brief resume? Thanks

hi everyone ! I almost complete with my application for fall 2018, but I'm missing my letter to the dean. I have written it over so many times, I just can't seem to fit in everything I want to say. Could any of you give some pointers on how you approached the letter to the dean? For example, did you choose to go directly into your academic and professional goals or did you happen to give more of a background of why you chose nursing? Also, what format did you guys follow APA, did you double space, include deans address on top, etc.. ? Thanks guys any help would be greatly appreciated.
