What was everyone's admission stats that got accepted to the program?

Yea, I've been looking into lots of programs and their requirements for admission. I guess this is what I am trying to say: Has anyone transferred from a 4 year university under a non nursing major, into a BSN program? If so, how did they do it? What are some schools that accept a higher percentage of transfer students? Does anyone have any insight on the transfer process? As well as advice to make it smoother?

Hello everyone, I've been posting here every now and then trying to soak up as much info about nursing school as I can. I am going to give you my stats and experiences, and you tell me where I should go from here. 3rd-year microbiology student (4.5-5 year program) at an out of state school. I found out that nursing is something I really want to do and be great in. There is no nursing program at my current school. I have most prerequisites done with about a 3.4-6 prereq GPA. Overall 3.0 GPA. I am planning on retaking a few courses and finishing my prereqs at a community college. We have a terrible chemistry department here and I didn't do so well in gen chem 1 and 2. Im crushing it in Ochem now (different and better instructors). I started volunteering at a local hospital and I really like it so far. I am planning on maybe taking a CNA course this winter to really get hands-on experience and a job in the field. I work in a fitness center and am CPR/AED/First Aid Certified. I have worked in a pharmaceutical lab as an intern a few summers ago (if that means anything). So I wanna get into a nursing school. I love the nurses I have met in my life and I want to contribute and change lives, just like they have for me. I don't want to do an ABSN because I am going to need to work during my program. I also hear these are extremely expensive. Whats the best way to get into a program? Should I try and transfer? Should I take a bunch of community college courses to bump my GPA, then apply? Should I graduate with my current degree? I don't want to waste money on a degree I don't care for if I am going to eventually find my way into nursing. Also, any schools that you suggest I apply to with my GPA and experiences? My GPA should increase when I retake classes at a CC. I'm having a tough time finding programs that I have a chance in and aren't extremely expensive. I am a male, but I don't hold that to increase any chance of getting in. I understand the system is a lot more complicated than that. Yet if there are any schools looking for males though I would love to hear about them. If you guys have any suggestions or advice that would be awesome!

Well good for you, I'm sure you will find your way. You are already in a program and have a way better understanding of the field than me. I currently have a 3.15 in my undergrad, I don't know if it's worth sticking through my undergrad and graduating with a similar gpa, or taking CC classes to raise it. But that also means I technically dropped out of my undergrad. I don't know how that looks to nursing schools.

Mindiofmidwifery, Are you happy with your decision? Are you going to try to do an ADN-BSN bridge or an MSN program when you are done there?

I'm a California resident doing my undergrad in another state. I'm willing to do my school just about anywhere that's accredited and reasonably priced.

Good to hear! I'm glad they found their way. My idea is to drop my undergrad, take CC courses for a GPA boost and transfer into a BSN program. I hope it works out for me too!

Hello everyone so I'm in my undergrad studying biology, and I am trying to find a way into nursing school. I have about 4-5 semesters left until graduation and I was considering dropping my undergrad to take community college courses for my prereqs. I have taken a decent amount of prereqs at my current school, and my GPA is okay. I want to take CC courses to boost my GPA and knock out my prereqs at a significantly cheaper price (rather than doing them here at my current university). Is this a good idea? I don't necessarily want to do an ABSN because of the inability to work. And I don't want to graduate with a degree in something I don't want to do. I want to transfer into a BSN program, but does dropping my undergrad look bad? Even if I get good grades in the CC courses? Any advice or or comments are greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone.

My undergrad at the current university I'm attending is expensive. I'm on a 5 year plan. Would dropping out and taking CC classes be a bad idea?

ABSN's seem really hard to get into and even harder to finish. And I am not sure I want to finish my major if it's in something I don't like. Plus my undergrad is extremely expensive and I want to boost my GPA as soon as I can. I appreciate the input, I'm just really confused about how to go about this.

Hey guys, so im currently a 3rd year Microbiology student and I want to get into nursing. My school doesn't have nursing so I'm looking to transfer. im applying to volunteer at a local hospital and doing whatever I can to stack my odds for applications. Should I try to transfer into a school with a BSN and then apply for their program? Or should I take community college courses for the next year boosting my GPA and getting my prereqs out of the way? also, if you guys have any advice as far as the best way for me to go from where I am (undergrad 3rd year) to a BSN program that would be extremely helpful! Thanks for the help I really appreciate it. I'm thinking of taking my prereq's at a community college nearby. The goal is to get into a BSN program but I'll do what I can to get there.

Hello everyone, I've been reading many threads here and I think it's about time I post something. I have a bit of a story, I hope it's not too long, but maybe you have some insight that be vital to my future. So, in the past few years I have always come across nurses. I spent a lot of time in the hospital as a kid (Autoimmune disorder) and I've always been around nurses. I was always amazed by their steadfast knowledge and skills. One day a few years back I was in the ICU with a travel nurse for hours upon hours. He told me all about his job and how much he loved it. He loved the critical thinking, and the ability to take initiative. It was something that he felt suited him well. Since that day I've always been inspired to find a job that meant that much to me. Here I am today studying microbiology (junior year) at a 4 year university, and I'm starting to realize, I need to become a nurse. I feel that I embody the characteristics and abilities entirely. Back when I was a kid, whenever someone got hurt I would always rush over, treat the wound, and help keep my friend calm and comfortable. I love the idea of being the first decision maker. The idea that you care for your patient physically, mentally, and emotionally. I strive for that kind of connection with a career. So as of now I have a 3.1 GPA (going to retake some classes I messed up on, go me) and I've taken a lot of prerequisites already like bio, chem, micro, nutrition, and sociology. And have a few more to go. I think an ABSN would be too fast paced and stressful so I want to transfer into a BSN program. How hard is this to do? How can I transfer to a school knowing I'll get into their nursing program? I'm applying to volunteer at the local hospital, and I've worked in a clinical lab for my major before. I'm trying to stack my resume and absorb as much information as I can. But, what should I be doing now to better my odds at nursing school? This is is something I feel that I absolutely have to do, I've given up Friday nights to read nursing books, and weekends to study. I promise myself I end up in the healthcare industry no matter what it takes. All I need is a little direction and motivation. Any advice or comments are sincerely appreciated, thanks guys!
