Finally, my opportunity to interview!!!!!
Hey everyone!!! I will make this as short and sweet as I can. I finally have an interview at a great hospital for the position(s) of L and D nurse OR Maternity/Nursery nurse. I have waited 11 years to even get a call! An L&D nurse is who inspired me to become a nurse! I've been a RN for 3 years the past 2 years at the hospital I currently work at (on a med/surg unit). Nervous is beyond how I am feeling, whith a touch of excitement!!!!! I really want to work at this hospital! I was already told how much I would be making ( over the phone before scheduled interview) which I thought was weird. My interview is 3 hours long. I will be taking a med test for the first hour, meeting with lead HR manager, then off to the maternity unit to interview with bother unit managers! Does anyone have any tips for me? I am so nervous/excited and basically in complete shock I have an interview scheduled!!!!! Thanks for reading!!!!

Night shift worries
Thank you for your response, it gives me hope. I think I would be ok if I did 2 shifts rather than 3.

Night shift worries
Thank you for your reply. I am feeling discouraged right now with some things. However, L and D is where I belong! I am truly so passionate about the entire aspect of maternity. After writing this pity party for myself,I decided to suck it up and apply. I can't expect change if I don't jump at the chances in front of me :-) thank you again for your reply. I really like the 2 on 1 off 1 on week. That's how I feel I would want my schedule as well!

Night shift worries
Hello, Right now I am sitting in front of my computer frustrated with myself. I am a med/surg/tele RN for a year and five months, 7a-7p. Prior to that I worked in LTC skilled unit 3-11pm. My heart so badly wants to be in the maternity field. I have such love and passion for women's health etc. My frustration stems from the opportunities there are for L&D nursing in my area. there are 4 hospitals within 30 mins of my house that offer L&D. 2 require a BSN( which I am working on). Due to my experience in LTC working 3-11p, I am terrified to apply to a position 7p-7a. My body does not adjust well to change and I'm concerned working nights will make me resent where I work etc.( if I am so lucky to even get a position.) I have been told and have read a few articles with tips on how to handle switching from days to night and I know starting nights could be what is necessary to break into L&D but I truly am anxious about it. Thank you for reading, any suggestion/comments welcome!

In need of advice pls!
Hey allnurses community! I am not a new member here rather, I could not remember my password and wanted to make a new user name now that I am no longer a nursing student. I am in need of advice for my situation. I've had my RN license for 2 years this past July. I have limited experience; 4 months in LTC and 1 year and 4 months on a med/surg/tele unit. I knew going into nursing that I wanted to work in Labor and delivery. However in my area ( SE PA) BSN nurses are required and the ASN nursing degree is fading out. I had every inclination to go ahead with my BSN, however the sudden passing of my dad last year ( same time I was newly hired on med/surg) took a toll on me and I wanted to focus on my job and family. Fast forward to a year later and I am looking to transition out of med/surg. I am more than halfway to my BSN degree and was told abruptly that I owe $3000 OOP to the university before I can start classes again. Unfortunately, I do not have that kind of cash in my back pocket and it will take me a while to pay that off. During this time, I have been trying to figure out what to do. I have come to the ultimate conclusion that I want to ultimately be a WHNP. With this being my goal I am trying to look for a position within OB-GYN nursing that will help me with the experience I need to get toward my goal. I am torn because again I need a BSN degree to gain experience in my desired field yet I am not sure if I should goto a different school and bypass a BSN degree and focus on an ASN to MSN bridge. Thank you for taking the time to read!
