I am a working mom making a career change!

I just got an acceptance email today (2/9). Or based on what I have read, being invited in for an interview is basically an acceptance... I hope! Anyone else???

Hello! Anyone else out there apply for DCN July 2018 BSN program? I submitted my application today!

Yes! This all sounds very similar to what we are faced with here in Colorado! People spending three or four semesters taking and retaking classes just to get more "points" to get in next time! It's brutal and I think I could have spent more in terms of time and money and lost income in this situation- hence the difficult decision re: going to a for profit.

After reading through all of these really helpful posts I am still undecided on For- or Non- profit but it is clear t me I need to get a BSN and not an associates!

unfortunately with 2 kiddos in school and a working spouse it isnt an option- but I am considering how far I am willing to drive for classes!

Colorado is CRAZY there are only a handful of public programs and I just went to an orientation meeting for one of them where we were told it can take 3 or MORE applications (which happen every 6 months) to get in- and you can' apply until all prerecs are completed. SO, I am weighing the cost of not doing anything for a few years (I quit my job to go back to school) and applying and reapplying to the public program, vs taking out bigger loans but having the income sooner.

Wow everyone thank you so much for chiming in here. In case it is relevant I want to work in an ED. I know the cost is so much higher, but the tradeoff would be finishing and starting my new career sooner. Would love to hear any other insights but I am encouraged by what I have heard so far!

I am changing careers at the ripe old age of 40. I am working through my prerecs now but I honestly don't have years and years to work towards a) getting into a public school program, which in my area can take YEARS! I have always thought poorly of "for Profit" education (now realizing I'm not sure why I thought that...) but as I am facing a mid-life career change I am thinking it might be the best option for me. I am in the Denver area and could apply and likely graduate from Denver School of Nursing before I could even get accepted to my local community college ADN or AAS program (Front Range Community College) My question is- are they really that bad? Will anyone want to hire me if I get a job from a "for profit" school? THANKS fr your guidance!

0I am a new nursing student, age 38 so I have given this career change a lot of thought. I am fairly certain I want to work in an Emergency Department and while I know that might change I would also like advice for things I can do during my time as a student to make me a desireable candidate to hospitals after I graduate. any advice on how to best prepare to be a great candidate or what worked for other readers is much appreciated! I know there are lots of ED positions in my area but I do not know how competitive that field is.

I'm 38, just enrolled in my 17 credits of prerequisites and will be applying in the spring!
