I was recently sent to Peer Review for a patient safety issue. I admittedly took a stable (though "critical care" per orders entered into EMR) to CT wiithout a portable monitor, though I accompanied her. There was no adverse event and the patient went on to have a successful hospital course and is doing well. I was told nothing about the allegation and was basically required to defend myself without fully knowing what the claim was. Additionally, my facility does not have a policy regarding transport to and from CT from ED. The Peer Review still found me "guilty" and decided to send me to the Board. Their account after I defended myself was worse than the initial claim. But it's their word against mine and I am terrified. Also, upon further review of the Peer Review sections on Texas BON website, I should have been able to see much more of the allegations and should have been able to ask questions, etc. The findings of the Review deem me "unsafe" but I am still working without stipulation or reprimand and the Director of the ED sat with me for FIVE hours basically dictating my rebuttal. I don't understand how this is happening when I am still working and my immediate supervisors find no fault. Has anyone been through this? Can I lose my license?? I am looking for direction and any insight!
