  1. it was like the first example but the nurse was lazy, so I knew I had to call for her to even report the incident
  2. Is it a HIPPA violation to page a MD for the next shift while clocked out, assuming you do not disclose patient information but name?
  3. So, I have two questions that I hope a fellow nurse could answer for me. I am a new graduate and just started work within the last week. Things to take into account: I start my shift at 1500, and I dont usually start med pass until 1600, and I usually deal with faxes around 1800 (so past office hours) My two questions are 1. faxing the pharmacy, do I need to call before hand, or do we just fax (I assume it depends if it is internal pharmacy or external?) 2. Can I fax documents after office hours without calling before hand, or should I ALWAYS call to ensure someone will be there to receive the document?
  4. do you have any advice for me as a new graduate? Mine is also LTC psych patients :)
  5. do you have any advice for me as a new graduate?
  6. Apparently I am probably going to get a job as a LPN working a ratio of 1 nurse to 24 dementia patients, am I in trouble? (I am a new grad) the DON acted like the ratio was not a bad thing, and that it was a really good ratio (I already knew it was higher than what I have ever seen) By the way when I worked as a CNA we had 1 nurse for 16 mental patients and it did not seem all that bad, but the RN was available to help with phone calls if needed. (different facility/unrelated)
  7. Hello, I am currently a nursing student and had to go get another tuberculosis skin test, normally these types of things do not cross my mind, but I noticed after I got my tuberculosis skin test, the nurse who gave it to me used a needle from her purse. This needle was not sealed from what I saw and was in a big plastic container that was shaped to fit the needle that all she had to do was remove the back end of container to use the needle. From what I saw the needle was the type used for tuberculosis skin test. However my question is, what is the chances of me getting any type disease since tuberculosis test are used intradermally IF the needle was used prior.
