Am I required to take a nursing student?
Hey everyone! I am a relatively new nurse at an inpatient acute rehab. I’ve been working there for a little under a year now. For starters, the training I got here as a new grad was abysmal. I got 8 weeks as a brand new nurse and was left on my own for most of the training and every time I tried to ask a question my preceptor would get annoyed or not even answer. I’ve had to rely on my coworkers to teach me the job and this has caused me to struggle for this whole first year. I checked my work email yesterday and had an email from a nursing student telling me I am their preceptor and they would like to know my schedule. This is the first I had heard of being a preceptor and I was never asked or informed by my manager that I would be getting a student. Since my boss was not in the office I sent her an email expressing that I was not comfortable being a preceptor because I am still learning myself and I asked her if she could assign the student to one of the more experienced nurses. Her response was “That is exactly why you are the perfect candidate to be a preceptor for a student.” When I emailed back stating that I am really not comfortable and I basically declined she never responded and I am off today. Advice please?! I feel very blind sided and taken advantage of.

New Grad RN looking to volunteer
Hi everyone! I recently passed my boards and am starting to apply to jobs. However, since my school is a diploma school, I realize I may have a difficult time finding an RN job off of the bat. Since I am still currently working as a PCA and have an income, I think volunteering would be a great way for me to gain experience and have another thing to put on my resume. I think it would also help me feel comfortable and confident and will help me learn new skills. Any experience will help, and it doesn’t have to be an RN position. Anything to get my foot in the door and get my feet wet would be amazing. Does anyone have any insight on any volunteer work I can do as a new grad RN? Possibly something temporary to help with the covid outbreak? Any suggestions or insight would be appreciated. TIA! ?

Brockton Hospital School of Nursing Fall 2018
Hello! I have just applied to Brockton Hospital School of Nursing for the Fall semester of 2018. Could any past or present students help me in any way to get some info on this college? Any comments would be appreciated! Also, what were your pre-acceptance scores (HESI, GPA, etc.) If anyone else applied and is waiting to hear back I would love to hear from you too. Thanks!!

Hi guys, sorry I haven't responded I haven't checked this in a while. I got an email but it was sent to an email address that I didn't think i had ever associated with Quincy. I didn't get an email on my Quincy college address which I thought was strange.

I noticed that Bunker Hill put their warning status in red letters at the front page whereas Quincy's is a bit inconspicuous. That does make me nervous as well. If they happened to shut down the program when students were in the middle of it, would everyone just have to start over somewhere else??

Don't worry!! I think what they are really looking at is how you did at Quincy, which it sounds like you did great. I didn't do so well at my previous college either..much worse than a 2.78, but I worked hard when I got to Quincy and managed to get all As and Bs and I got accepted for Spring after being heartbroken when I was wait-listed for Fall. As for the Portal and the Nursing tab, every time I check my portal it looks different. At one point it let me see my "admissions status," and now it says it is "unavailable" when I click on it. At another point when I clicked on the Nursing tab it said "Welcome and congratulations on being accepted," and it doesn't say that anymore but the tab is still there. I think the portal is being finicky and I don't think they want people to see anything on there until they have sent out official letters. I definitely think you stand a chance!

You're right, it might only be showing up for me since I am already a current student. The fact that someone told you next week when before they said this week is ridiculous, I think they are just making up answers at this point. The lady that I emailed said I would receive my letter "shortly" which is also very vague. But just because you don't see anything on your portal, I don't think that necessarily means you weren't accepted, because you aren't seeing the other tabs either, which is probably because you aren't currently enrolled in classes. I wouldn't give up hope!

When I log into the portal, the tabs at the top in order look like: Home, Nursing, Course Search, Online Registration, Admissions, Academics, Student, Library, My Pages. When I clicked on "pay deposit" it says it is going to be $375. I'm not sure if we were meant to know from the portal, so I don't think you have to see what I'm seeing. I think she just looked up my name and told me whether I got in or not

Hi guys, I received an email back from the Admissions Department saying that what I saw on my QC Portal means that I am accepted. So if you guys see the same stuff I'm seeing on your portal (the Nursing tab and the option to pay the reservation deposit) you are accepted as well!

It said I had a new counselor so I emailed her to ask and I will let you know when she replies!

It says the same for me, I think we all got in though!!!

Yes I took almost all of my pre-requisites there. I clicked on "admission status" again however and it said this information is not available. I have a feeling they don't want people to know whether they were accepted yet until the letters have gone out

There was a new tab on my QC Portal called "Nursing" that I had never seen before so I clicked on it. I have the option to pay a "reservation deposit." Then I clicked on my admissions status and it said accepted as of 10/14/17/ I'm still skeptical though and I don't want to get my hopes up in case it was a mistake

Hello, I am not sure what you mean by this. I have heard Quincy has a good NCLEX pass rate. Do you have a link to any data I can look at?

You did great too don't give up hope yet! And I finished everything besides Micro which I'm taking currently. Also at the last minute in September they said my math class from my previous college wouldn't be accepted so they said if I registered for Statistics they would review my application. So I'm taking that now too

I only applied to Quincy for Spring because I took most of my pre-requisites there and really like it so far. How about you?
