Do you start clinicals first semester? Yes, but towards the later half of the semester: 2 weeks at a nursing home, 4 weeks in acute care (adult nursing care, mostly post operative patients from department ranging from medical med-surg, ortho, neuro, etc) Are the clinicals at night, or during the day (I don't mind, just curious)? First semester - daytime 7AM-4PM (may let out earlier depending on your instructor), 2nd and 3rd semester varies, can be during week or weekend, weekend overnight clinicals are by volunteer only, there are day 6am-2pm, evening 2:30pm-10:20pm, overnight (you volunteer for this, they don't assign you) 11pm-7am Are clinicals held at Strong? Yes, also highland hospital and rochester regional. Long term care is at nursing homes- the jewish home, monroe, st. johns home Are there dedicated clinicals instructors? yes How does the group clinicals process work? there is 1 clinical instructor for a group of about 7-8, you are also assigned to a floor nurse who may have 1 or 2 students. Each floor nurse if different in how much they spend time teaching, you just have to remain available and offer to help when you can. Your clinical instructor makes sure you get certain tasks done for practice, such as injections. Does everyone in the cohort have the same class schedule, or are there a few different schedules students are integrated into? same class lecture schedule, but different clinical schedules. There are also labs that vary, Lab A is earlier and right after class, Lab B follows lab A, some people want to get it over with, some like having the break to go to the gym (Free on campus!) or do work in the student lounge area. hope this helps!

I am in the program now. No one in my cohort is in the master's program and theres only 1 or 2 in the cohorts before me. Honestly, it's probably a good idea. Everyone starts out the program thinking they'll be in peds and that they will be NPs in a couple years but many things change. You go to clinical and you realize you can't stand what you once thought you wanted and that being an RN is completely different from NP. There are SO many things you can do with nursing, and they really emphasize that. Additionally, from my experience, if you graduated from the school of nursing and stay and work for their hospitals, you have a pick of what department you want to go to (if you have great recommendations/grades, the ICU-even peds may hire you and thats almost unheard of in any other hospital for new grads), and you're almost a shoe-in for whatever program you decide to do later on.

Hello Bharti! Good luck to you! In regards to the program itself, we in this thread have not started, our classes start in September. As for hearing back, most of us had interviews in March and April and heard back the second week of June, so expect to hear back in 2-2.5 months. This program doesn't do much with emailing, it's mostly calls and letters. For example, they call us to let us know we get in and then send us a comprehensive packet in the mail. Our deposit is being paid via check sent in the mail, not though an online portal. The only thing I can say about it now is that you have to get everything ready in about a one-two month period if you do plan to attend: housing, loans, fafsa, physicals, etc. Because you are considered a graduate student, housing and whatnot is not guaranteed through the school. The duration of the program also mean you have to pay more upfront. It's an expensive program but probably less competitive than the SUNYs. I however think it's worth it due to the reputation, medical school, and affiliated hospitals.

Update: received my packet! Now I can breathe a sigh of relief!

Hi.. so early June is coming up and I imagine we are all going to be on here anxiously waiting on decisions!!! I am already accepted to one program and am waiting on U of R. Though U or R is kind of expensive, it has great name recognition and I imagine the 12 months will fly by! I have heard many things about the class size of the APBNN program, from 35 - 100, so I'm really not sure how that works... Other than the admissions process, I haven't heard much about the program, which I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing. U of R is a very reputable school with a medical school so I imagine their nursing program would match their reputation. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!

I called admissions and they only told me to wait! They said that hey send out emails Tuesday and Thursday but I really don't know if it will be an email or letter att this point. I'm kind of paranoid that it got lost in the mail but I wouldn't know who else to ask!

Mine changed the 28th but idk if it's an acceptance or wait list notification. No letter or anything yet I am dying to know!

Thanks so much for the input TinyNurse2be! Really helpful, thank you letting me know that people do succeed because honestly the reviews online in the AllNurses forum are terrifying. I know all Accelerated programs do have their kinks and aren't perfect due to the short duration. I've seen bad reviews for even the Big SUNY schools! But this is making me a tad bit more hopeful :)

I called the office and they said I may receive an email today..but nothing! Has anybody heard back recently? I'm assuming its a wait-list notice but I would really like to know!

Yeah, maybe I'm just paranoid but the whole admissions process was very easy and fast, almost like they're trying to sell the program as soon as possible. I'm pretty good as self teaching as long as the tests are fair, but due to the lack of information I am unsure about that. I am almost tempted to DM students I find on facebook but that may be a little too desperate, haha. Utica is my fallback school because I know I'm accepted and they're accelerated. Once I get off a waitlist or get accepted into another program, I'll most likely not go.

I guess it all depends, with NP you can take a breather and really take you time figuring out what you want to do in the medical field as an RN. You can also make some money in the meantime to pay off any loans or pay for NP schools.I don't think you need any clinical hours from what I see on most admissions pages for NP, but I would say 500 hours absolute minimum for PA. I've had classmates that say that they are going against much older candidates with thousands of hours of experience. If you're really thinking about pay, I have not seen a specialty that pays more (if you're a non MD) than a nurse anesthetist.

Yeah I heard late May, early June, some other forums stated 1st or 2nd week of June so it's definitely too early. I think most people get interviewed because Nancy contacted me right after she got my application.

I'm provisionally accepted too! They are accredited which is a plus but all these comments are making me think I would waste my money. It seems as if the staff is controlling any new reviews because of how bad the reputation has gotten.
