New Grad FNP-Imposter Syndrome or Regret?
Hello, I'm hoping to get perspective from experienced NPs on the RN-to-NP transition and whether what I'm experiencing is typical. I became an NP for many of the same reasons as others — wanting more involvement in decision-making, more career flexibility, and better long-term work-life balance. However, my first NP role ended largely due to lack of support, and since then I've found myself questioning whether the NP role is aligning with what I was hoping for. I've tried to return to bedside nursing, which I truly miss, but I've run into an unexpected barrier: multiple recruiters have told me they won't move my RN applications forward because I'm now an NP. They have explicitly told me they "assume RN's with an NP license won't stay in an RN role and will leave once they find an NP role". So while bedside would feel like a good fit, it doesn't seem to be a realistic option for me-ever. Which is so sad. At the same time, the FNP market in my area feels very saturated, and with my background in pediatrics and women's health, I've had a hard time fitting into or getting interviews for many of the available NP roles. I recently accepted another NP position, but the onboarding process has been disorganized and inconsistent, which has raised concerns for me about whether I'll have adequate support and training. I'm genuinely trying to give the NP role a fair chance, but I also worry about repeating the same experience I had in my first job. I'm also finding the 5-day workweek and the amount of work that follows you home much more challenging than I expected. It feels like a 24/7 job. A lot of my cohort expresses the same/similar feelings and many have made multiple job changes in such a short time. I would really appreciate hearing from NPs who've been through this phase — especially anyone who struggled early on, changed settings, or found a way to make this role more sustainable. How did you decide whether to keep going, pivot, or adjust your path? I would absolutely be open to non-clinical positions but again I would need experience or additional degrees (for example informatics) Any advice is greatly appreciated.

First NP job did not work out..now what?
Thank you all-I ended up leaving the organization with no regrets (thus-far). It took several months to find a new NP position. Ironically, majority of the recruiters in my area said being hired back as an RN while being an NP is undesirable. With some flat out saying they will not hire an RN who is an NP (crazy). I wasn't able to get an RN position even though I truly want that after reflecting from my first experience for many reasons. Again, thank you for the encouragement and advice.

First NP job did not work out..now what?
Hello, I just need some input on what to do next. I accepted my first NP job. I was told they did not expect me to know anything and they would give me the training needed. There was no NP there currently because they had left. I just found out I'm the 3rd NP to leave out of 5 for the same reason. We mutually agree this position is not a good fit. The training I was promised was clearly not successful. My personal plan is to go back to bedside while I figure out what specialty I even want to work in. However, I am being offered an internal transfer of my choice. (tbh theres 1 job that I would maybe be interested but again, its kinds forced) I have been advised to take the transfer or I may never be an NP again because of a gap in my resume. Any advise would be appreciated.

NICU new grad mistakes
Hi, new grad here. It has been one month off orientation. I am devastated to say I have made 2 mistakes. The first one was related to an IV order that was ordered wrong by the resident and I was told I didn't have enough experience to catch. The patient was totally fine. The second one was with a discharge. It was a crazy shift. I forgot to complete the final newborn screen. It was brought to my attention the next day. I am freaking out. I have done many discharges and have always remembered to do it for some reason this time it must have slipped my mind. I think because during report me and the night shift nurse looked everything over and she said everything was there so subconsciously when I was looking everything over again and again it didn't dawn on me that it was missing. I was notified by e-mail that it was missing but now what happens? I am a complete mess. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Thank you so much!

pediatric lab values
I have a silly question.... Are pediatric electrolyte values the same as adults? (sodium 135-145, potassium 3.5-5 etc.) I can't seem to find a reliable resource online. Same for IV potassium I keep finding different numbers.

NYU ABSN Fall 2017
Hey guys, are any of you missing nutrition and received e-mail about registration? I was told I could take it over the summer but as I was clicking through links, I noticed it said the class is not available for non-matriculated students. I can't register until may 15 and I don't want to find out then that I can't actually take it..I tried contacting someone and never got a response so I'm just curious if anyone is in my position??

NYU ABSN Fall 2017
For those of you who only have nutrition left to take: I am a bit confused, wondering if anyone could clarify. I got an email about registration telling me I have to register for nutrition in the fall. I received another email saying I have the option to take it over the summer at NYU but I would have to wait until may 15th to do so because i am considered non-matriculated and my e-mail is not active until that day. The thing is, i have access to my school email and have received some emails so doesn't that mean its activated? Why would i have to wait until may 15th? When are health forms due? Ive seen multiple different dates (including the 15th) Has anyone registered yet and know the process?

Does anyone know when health forms are due? Ive seen either 6 week before class starts or may 15? ( seems to close to be possible in my opinion)

NYU ABSN Fall 2017

NYU ABSN Fall 2017
Congrats everyone! Just got accepted myself! Besides paying to hold your spot and accepting financial aid, is there anything else we should be doing? I need nutrition and want to take it over the summer not sure when i should contact them about it or if they'll contact me.

NYU ABSN Fall 2017
Thank you for the suggestions @blackberrymousse. Yes, unfortunately I will be assuming I will not hear back in time and will be paying for the classes. This is my 5th year as an undergrad and my 3rd attempt at getting into a nursing program. I can not pass this opportunity u,p even if NYU is my first choice.
