Hi everyone, I work in respite shift nursing in patients homes (8 hour night shifts). I have had a client for the past year and a half that has had a number of problems in their house (mice, lice, bed bugs twice). The agency I work for does not seem to put any effort into resloving these issues- I reported the mice for a YEAR before something was done (and my poor client has many health problems that could be negatively impacted by mice). I have also had my car badly damaged when I was parked there one night. I am actively seeking another job but until then I am not sure what to do. My manager has been very nasty and rude to other nurses who have refused to go there, which is why I have continued to go there. Anyways, another nurse that goes there said she found bed bugs last night (I seen pictures too). I understand that as nurses we need to sometimes work in unfavourable conditions but I am having severe panic attacks before going to this client's house. If I were to bring the bed bugs home it would be very costly to try to get rid of them and the agency I work for would not reimburse me. My question is: do I have the right to refuse going there on the 8 hour night shifts I am scheduled for this weekend or until I have proof the issue has been resolved? Thank you for any help ?

Hi all! I have been at my current nursing job for a year and 9 months now. I enjoy the work itself but I'm on night shift and haven't adjused. I've tried everything but just cannot get proper sleep. There are no opportunities to transfer to day shift as we are very short staffed on nights. For this reason, I've really wanted to leave. I've hesitated because I don't want to be a job hopper and I like to stay as long as possible at one place. I have a second casual job which I LOVE and have been there almost 4 years. I plan on staying here but there just isn't enough work to make ends meet. Anyways, there's this place hiring that I've wanted to work at forever but they haven't been hiring until now. I understand that the grass isn't always greener but night shift is killing me. Opinions on whether I should apply? Or is it just too soon to leave my current job on nights?

I have a client who asked me if I have experience working with other patients with the same syndrome that she has. I told her that yes I have another client with the same syndrome. She asked me general questions about the client (to see if they are going through the same thing she is) I did not give any specifics about the client, such as their name, birthdate, address, etc (the other client is through another job so she doesn't even know which agency they are with). But she was intrigued because she doesn't know many people personally going through what she is. I was cautious in my answers but I'm still worried I shouldn't have said anything? Could this be a privacy breach?

Hi all, I work for a home care agency as a nurse. I work night shifts in clients homes. One of my main clients lives in a very unsafe area of town with a lot of crime. The agency I work for is aware of these conditions and is trying to get the family moved (although this is a very slow process). When I was working the other night I went back to my car in the morning (there is a main parking lot for these units that people live in). My car had been kicked and damaged under the driver side window. Someone had gotten the driver side window down and broken in. The mechanism to close my driver side window is broken. My window will no longer close and the cost to repair is very expensive. I filed a police report and also let my employer know. My main manager was away so I reported it to the other manager. My manager is a very difficult person and I've seen her be mean to a lot of the nurses. I am only casual and need the work which is why I am still seeing that client in the unsafe neighbourhood. Should I request compensation for the damage to my car? Im worried that I would anger my manager if I were to ask. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

Hi all! I have a question about my resume. I am a casual nurse in LTC. I really haven't enjoyed the work. I put in my letter of resignation to my manager stating my last available day to pick up any shifts will be April 5th. I haven't been able to pick anything up recently because there has been a major outbreak and I cannot risk spreading this to clients at my other job. The last time I was paid was for meeting time at the beginning of March. Will I list this as my last day of employment on my resume? Or the last day I'm employed (April 5?) Thank you for any help :)
