Hello Anna26, For the MH HESI I used quizlet. I survived Boyer's exams by making sure I was there for lecture and studied the power points. She still managed to pull a random fact or question on the exam that was from an obscure part of the chapter! Good luck!

@jowilk Clinicals were held 1st semester at NHC in Tullahoma, Lynchburg, Antioch, Murfreesboro, McMinnville. 2nd at St. Thomas Rutherford & Smithville, Tennova at Tullahoma, and Lincoln Medical Center in Fayetteville. Mental health clinicals were at Vanderbilt, Centerstone, Compassus, and Trustpoint in Murfreesboro. I may be missing a few. These locations are dependent upon renewed agreements with the school. Don't get it twisted..you may still be driving over an hour even if you can see one of these facilities right out side your window.

I survived my exams this week and the semester. ? Here is a bit more info I thought I would share. Good luck you guys. -Required Uniform items- StethoscopeGogglesBandage scissorsPen light (with pupil gauge) Watch with second hand-Studying- If you get this down before fall, you will be ahead of the game. Learn to love "most correct", SATA'S (select all that apply) questions and how to answer them. Learn the ABC's, Maslows, ADPIE, SBAR, concept mapping and the difference between Subjective/Objective information. Skim chapters prior to attending class. Focus on headers, paragraph topics, diagrams, boxes and side bars. Power Point's.. don't squander your time trying to print every power point as soon as it gets posted. I have lost HOURS and taken out a small forest reprinting because slides were changed sometimes right before class. *see page 3 and remember the word 'flexibility' again. -Clinical nights- During clinical you will have to "pick up" your pt the night before. This is prep work for a care plan/enag, medication awareness for the following day, and to meet your patient. Show up again the next morning around 6:30 ready to go. -Suggestions- I'd recommend cleaning your house/room/car thoroughly before school starts. Food prep the best you can. Make ahead crock pot/frozen things and easy snacks to grab, such as, apples/peanut butter, veggies, grapes, hard boiled eggs, nuts. I find Trello.com helpful in organizing a schedule for the content that needs to be studied. For lecture/power points, I used a 1.5 in folder and dividers.1.5 in folder for clinical1.5 in folder for skills labAfter each exam, I move the ppt's to a 2 in binder and leave at home.https://www.walmart.com/ip/Avery-2-Heavy-Duty-View-Binder-One-Touch-Rings-Navy-Blue/14935274 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Avery-Ready-Index-TOC-Dividers-Multicolor-Tabs-1-Sets-11151/17163691 This is handy at clinical. https://www.amazon.com/WhiteCoat-Clipboard-Wine-Nursing-Edition/dp/B00GWSVO3Q/ref=sr_1_8crid=1DA7I0VMTZOS3&keywords=iso+clipboard&qid=1556860891&s=gateway&sprefix=iso+clip%2Caps%2C150&sr=8-8 Check out free NRSNG pod casts and you can sign up for freebie Friday's.

Y'all know my disclosure - subject to change. I will post more required items and sort of a "things I wish I had known" when I can. I have 4 exams to conquer over the next week and a 1/2. I may sink yet! So, wish me luck.. I purchased 2 scrub sets and 1 lab coat. So that one pair is always clean and provides a buffer to not have to wash clothes every 5 seconds. I got them through Amazon Prime that way I could send things back if they didn't fit appropriately. Scrub Hub in the Boro is the only other place I ventured too and they didn't carry Landau at the time. uniform list revised.pdf

If you are bridging.. These may be in your near future. I also starred* items in 1st year section you may need to consider purchasing. If I give something a "thumbs down", it is because I think it is difficult to match older edition chapters to the instructors lecture outline. Brunner & Suddarth's Textbook of Medical-Surgical Nursing (Brunner and Suddarth's Textbook of Medical-Surgical) Fourteenth, North American Edition, 1-Volume Edition ISBN-13: 978-1496347992 ~Reading Assignments/Day 1 ~Massive paper weight-lol ~? Essentials of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing: Concepts of Care in Evidence-Based Practice 7th Edition ISBN-13: 978-0803658608 ~Needed for Reading Assignments ~Psych clinical homework completion ~? 2016 Intravenous Medications: A Handbook for Nurses and Health Professionals 32nd ISBN-13: 978-0323296601 ~Needed for skills check offs ~Clinicals if instructor is picky ~Older edition friendly http://thepoint.lww.com/coursepoint This.. ...Ugh. While I "think" it helped me learn more content, I feel like I HAD to purchase/buy this @ $150 for 10 grade points. It is also added stress for mandatory homework completion deadlines. Again, hope this helps.

This is the book list that was handed to us (may be different for you) during orientation. I purchased a "Discounted Package" from the Motlow Bookstore. My package was promised June 30th and got mine a week before classes. I was freaking out. Some of my classmates made off like bandits purchasing elsewhere and had them sooner. The bookstore will price match though from what I understand. The package cost was $500 and did not include all the books listed. For UTD prices on books the isbn#'s are listed below. Just know everything here is my personal opinion and experience. I don't want you to feel like you have to purchase every book that they list. I did, and wished I hadn't. You think you are going to be the best student ever by reading everything, but let me crush those dreams right now. There is not enough time in the day for ALL of it. By this second semester, I didn't purchase anything till a week after class started. Doing it this way ensured "needed" items instead. If I give something a "thumbs down", it is because I think it is difficult to match older edition chapters to the instructors lecture outline. A bit of light recommended reading for the summer - 1st years. *Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN® Examination 7th Edition ISBN-13: 978-0323358514 ~Summer reading This provides scope for NCLEX style q's and obvious review for NCLEX. Too soon? I think not. Fundamentals Success: A Q&A Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking 4th Ed ISBN-13: 978-0803644144 ~summer reading I think this helped me get my head around the "why this is the right answer". Some of the content will match up with what you are to cover and a few of the questions even showed up on the exams. (Not many, but if it helped me get 1 question right.. It was worth it for me.) Strategies, Techniques, & Approaches to Critical Thinking: A Clinical Reasoning Workbook for Nurses (Strategies, Techniques, & Approaches to Thinking) 5th Edition ISBN-13: 978-1455733903 ~"Optional" summer reading I would call this mind mapping or connecting the dots for clinical. Mosby's Manual of Diagnostic and Laboratory Tests 6th Edition ISBN-13: 978-0323446631 I never used this 1st semester. I have used it this semester (2nd), but feel I can find the same info here and other places on line. https://labtestsonline.org Fluids & Electrolytes Made Incredibly Easy! (Incredibly Easy! Series®) Sixth Edition ISBN-13: 978-1451193961 You might find this helpful? I've never opened it. Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary 23rd ISBN-13: 978-0803659049 ~I have yet to use this book. Calculating Dosages Online: Access Card ISBN-13: 978-0803639690 Total waste - As long as they don't make mandatory homework from this, as in they are checking it, I'd skip it. If you feel like you need to work through Med Math, get this one used/rented instead. It's way better. Calculate with Confidence (Morris, Calculate with Confidence) 6th ISBN-13: 978-0323089319 Davis's Nursing Skills Videos: 12-month access 1st Edition ISBN-13: 978-0803660595 Total waste - They will tell you what THEY want you to do, how to do it, and in what order. The nursing dept heads have been talking about doing a big/little program (1st yrs assigned with 2nd's) to help navigate the new waters. If this is something you guys are interested in, be sure to bring it up during orientation. If not, there were people who failed 1st go round that were admitted back and I asked them a gazillion questions. My pleasure, I would have gave my left pinky toe for someone to chat with on this roller coaster ride. ❤️

@kzmmx Orientation was previously held in the Marcum building and I don't see that changing. As far as a dress code goes... last year people showed up looking like they just rolled out of bed. They soon regretted their decision when photos were taken that day for our nursing ID badges.

@kzmmx Yes, plenty of my classmates are working through school. One in particular has a similar schedule - Fri/Sat/Sun. The only issue will be if you get a Saturday clinical. Just let the instructors know and I'm sure they will work with you. Keep in mind you will also have class and exams on Monday. She shows up pretty wiped out, but it can be done! #rndetermined!

@kzmmx This semester has been so nuts. I've lost track of what day it is half the time. I was able to download a clean calendar for 2nd semester though and it may be beneficial to those that are bridging. A bit of an outline - Med Surg clinicals (CFE) you only go 6x's and Mental Health 4x's plus attend a Support Group. All subject to change of course.

@kzmmx Here is my calendar from 1st semester. It will probably be more confusing than helpful as mine turned out to be a personal calendar also. I did not want to chance transferring the school schedule wrong. Hence.. the black outs.

@Courtney Brianna Tobitt Sadly, there is no way to know what each year's cumulative scores will need to be until letters are out and people are willing to share their scores. My first time applying (4/25/17) was in the 580's. I reapplied and was accepted (4/19/18) with around 620 points. Maybe this can be a ballpark range for you.- Good luck to you and everyone.

In case you missed Motlow's nursing information session today in McMinnville. You can still make it to the Smyrna, Fayetteville or Moore sessions. I would have posted before now, but I just found out myself. https://calendar.mscc.edu/?fbclid=IwAR1zQM1ImitHipm9Jhtabh_g8-X1oB2xKlwp-z43OC1kqx4Usiji4QPq1j4

@kzmmx I was able to submit an appeal letter for the same issue with the Reconnect Grant. It was accepted and it is what I'm attending school with. I would recommend to get in touch with the finance department to see if this is an option. Thank you for your encouragement!

Kzmmx, Would you mind if I asked what type of financial aid you applied for? Costs... The list looks pretty good. I would add in money for gas, food and the occasional hotel room if your clinical site is 1.5 hrs away. Make sure the CPR cert is through the American Heart Association as they will not accept another company. How is the semester going you ask? Just trying to taking one day at a time.

I would NEVER discourage anyone from speaking with a Completion Coach. They are a good "in" and source of some information, however, they just usually do not have the most up-to-date information related to the nursing program. Personally, starting out I was signed up for 2 different classes under their direction that was not what I needed (for nursing) on two separate occasions. Questions I have had either went unanswered or took days/week to get a reply. I would love to say this issue was related to my assigned coach, but this has happened with other faculty as well. They would be best when trying to see what courses will transfer from another college. In regards to nursing information sessions, they are normally held in October. Although, times and dates doesn't seem to be made widely known. I will say I got a 1.5 day heads up for the meeting they had in 2016 from my completion coach. Nothing like asking off work at the last min.

Nickie Fanning is the secretary for the nursing dept. She would be the best person to speak with. I can say they have been overwhelmed trying to get a clinicals schedule squared away. If you have had any of these courses: Art, Speech, Microbiology, Stats, AP l & ll, Psychology, or English Comp l, they would be used to calculate your GPA. For instance, if you have had art and drama - 2 humanities courses- the highest grade would be used for calculation. Nursing Calculations does not count. That's one they changed on me mid course.

If you know how to calculate your GPA using only the nursing classes and HESI score with their points calculator, then thats your score. It's what they will have also. You will not see anything nursing related till that April email and then the first day of class on D2L.

ITV. Interactive Television The instructor is lecturing from one of the campuses (mostly from Moore but there is rotation) in which you see and hear in real time. The power point is on the projection screen. Everyone is on camera. Its like one big classroom. The tv screen has the students from Moore, McMinnville, or Smyrna displayed in boxes depending on where the lecture is coming from. If the lecture is taking place from another campus... good luck if you have a question or comment. You are not even the size of an inch on screen. It just about takes the whole classroom joining in to get the attention of the instructor. They do their best, but it has its own set of challenges. I do recommend recording the lectures, but you have to sign a disclosure agreement at the beginning of the semester. I just used my iPhone, nothing fancy. You can then listen to it over on days you have to travel or while trying to get in some exercise lol. There is occasionally a review at the end of class, and you don't want to be scrambling to write it all down. You can bank on being at Moore at least 1 day/wk the whole semester sometimes 2. Monday/Wed - Lecture 1-2:50 (home campus) Tue or Thur & sometimes both days - Lab 9-4 (Moore) Clinical Tue or Wed or Sat -Clinical 6:30 am- 2:30-3 Mandatory -Practice 9-12 (home campus) The day for practice depends on what days they present to you and what is available. Mine was on Wednesday. So, I would be there at 9-12 for practice, eat lunch, and just stay until lecture was over. Twice during the semester, you must demonstrate a "return" of what you have learned. You could be asked to come in any day/time of the week when this is due. This is performed at the main campus and can take anywhere from 20 to 40 min. All subject to them being on time. Then, beginning in October you will need to factor in clinical days. Some drove from Smyrna to Tullahoma NHC for clinicals. Lynchburg, Antioch, Murfreesboro, McMinnville were all on the map for clinicals. The clinical day isn't over once you leave either. You will have around a 20-page report called a Enag and Concept Mapping to fill out on your day that can take hours. This is due by 11 pm the following day. Myjourney2nursing, I answered some of your other questions in my previous post. I am being as candid as possible with this and all information is subject to change. Our 2020's class outline is different from the class before us. Hope this helps!

Full disclosure: It will not be of any benefit for me or you to sugar coat this process. As a result, I will be direct as possible. Also, please don't consider my comments as the Holy Grail but more of an outline with the knowledge that all information is subject to change with each class. The first thing you need to grasp is you-will-have-to-learn-to-be-flexible. If not, it will drive you crazy. I mean that with all sincerity. There are times that you will be in the dark up until the last minute. It makes it hard to plan, know when you can work, sleep, study, spend time with family, will need child care, what you need to bring, or simply where you should be, and when. Just know that you are not alone, and your classmates will be feeling the same way. From now until April feels like waiting for-ev-er: As I have already mentioned, you should confirm with the dept. that your HESI scores were received. Don't assume they got them or anything else for that matter. Customarily, at the very END of April the LPN bridge acceptance emails are sent first, then to the traditional students, followed by rejections. There is a time window so that those who are accepted can confirm or decline enrollment and they can move to the next person in line. I bet I refreshed my email inbox every 2 seconds! Sadly, there is no way to know what each year's cumulative scores will need to be until letters are out and people are willing to share their scores. One could only assume that if/how MTSU changed their admission number that it would have some impact on the competitiveness for acceptance into Motlow. I would suggest having alternate plans in place by running down all the "what if" scenarios and possibly applying to other schools. This way you always have a game plan. If you don't get in, don't give up. I could tell you my sad story of how they changed the curriculum when I began this journey and couldn't even apply till the following year. I had to finish a course that I was in the middle of taking that was no longer required merely to turn around and take another required class. I was not grandfathered into anything. Then, the next year I was "ranked in the next 20 students" on the wait-list my first time applying (4/25/17), and my total points was in the 580's. They don't tell you if you are number 19 or 1 in the list. Essentially, you just sit, wait, and pray until Aug 1st that your number is pulled. I'm not going to lie, it's torture. Are you getting the importance of perseverance and flexibility yet? If you're like me and are not called, then look at that "what if list" on where you need to improve and make adjustments accordingly. I reapplied and was accepted (4/19/18) with around 620 points. Words of advice that I have picked up along the way.. Let that be the last time you compare scores/grades with others. I don't have to tell you that at some point a classmate's grade will be higher or lower than yours which makes you or them feel bad. Just don't do it. Once you start the program it honestly doesn't matter what everyone else makes. You will know the grade you need to make, and you are in competition with no one else but yourself. Orientation: This was held in May at Moore Co. for almost 6 hours with lunch provided. The bookstore and financial aid just to name a few presented to us. There was also 2nd years who showed a few guides to us. Its hard to express the enormity of this without sounding negative about everything. Heck, I didn't even know what questions to ask when given the opportunity. A packet is given to you with a list required items due by mid-July: drug testing, background check, tb skin test, physical, vaccines, and CPR verification (by AHA ONLY). If you find yourself assuming, don't. DON'T ASSUME a facility will send copies of your information to the Nursing Department. Don't assume they got it. Travel time: Time spent on the road is a big deal for everyone. As you are probably aware, just because you choose Smyrna to be your main campus doesn't mean you will get it. It tends to have the largest number of students. Since you will frequently be traveling to the main campus, if you have never driven there and back from your home, do it. Figure out now what the best route is for you and if it is going to be a deal breaker. Other things to consider: I feel that it is not expressively straightforward on just how much time you are going to spending at school or doing something for school. It is a huge commitment. To the students taking extra classes either to keep/obtain a scholarship that requires a 12-hr. load or following the classes outlined by the Nursing Dept found it difficult to work due to the constant flux in the schedule. This was especially true if they were ground classes and not on-line. I'm not saying it can't be done, it just complicates life. You will have clinicals the first semester. We had 5 clinical days that began the second week of October that were on T/Th/Sat. This partly dictates groupings for mandatory practice/lab days. For example, your clinical day does not change. I was placed in a Saturday clinical and went every Saturday for 5 weeks. Therefore, my lab day was on Tuesday and I had Thursdays off (but not always). If you have a clinical day on Tuesday then your lab day would be on Thursday. Info overload! Let that all that sink in.

Your GPA is calculated by only using the classes required for the program.
