  1. Hi @franklin_washington, I was accepted into the Spring 2018 cohort and I had a really hard time shortening my essays and choosing only 2 as well. If they say to answer 2, I would only answer 2. They most likely will only read the first 2 if you submit more than that because they have to get through so many applications and it wouldn't be fair for them to read more in your application compared to other applicants who followed the instructions. It's incredibly challening to narrow things down to 300 words, but they want to know that you can write concisely and get your point across. Short, sweet, and to the point will be more memorable than writing a novel. I couldn't choose so I had a few of my closest friends and professors read all 3 and vote. I hope this helps! Best of luck to you!
  2. I just got in! Fingers crossed for everyone who's still waiting! Stay positive! :)
  3. I think that sounds like a really cool idea! Has anyone already started making living arrangements? Is there a Facebook page for the cohort somewhere? I haven't received any emails since paying my deposit.
  4. @DBMS92 That's awesome! The reason why I ask is because I'm the world's biggest dog person and I really really really want to get a dog, but I just don't know how feasible that will be while starting the program. If not, maybe I can volunteer and walk dogs at the humane society or something.
  5. Hi @ashbymac, I don't believe so. I've stalked several threads from previous application cycles and it looks like they release decisions in batches. I don't know why, but it seems to be the case. I haven't heard back yet either and I'm trying my hardest to stay positive! I've been admitted to another very competitive program for ABSN but Hopkins has been my dream for quite some time. Congratulations to everyone who has already been accepted and best of luck to those of us who are still waiting!
  6. This may be a weird question but do any of you have any pets you're planning to bring with you? Or did any current/former students have pets when they started?
  7. I keep checking my email 30 times a day even though I know the decisions aren't supposed to be release until September 1st-ish, lol. If anyone hears back early, please post on here!
  8. If there are any current students or alumni in this thread who didn't get any financial aid besides loan eligibility from Duke, would you mind sharing whether or not you think the hefty price tag is worth it? I'm struggling to justify going into such significant debt despite Duke being the #1 program in the country. Any and all advice, experiences, or tips are welcome! Thanks in advance!
  9. @Yahdji If your application was "verified" through NursingCAS, that means that it was submitted to JH.
  10. The last I heard was they planned to release decisions on or around September 1st. Fingers crossed for everyone! I submitted in June and it's killing me waiting this long haha. Also, going along with @Sarah44, if anyone has any info on how often JH gives out scholarships and the amounts (besides what's on the website), that would be incredibly helpful!
  11. I think they are releasing financial aid packages as they are finishing them, so I'm sure y'all's packages will be posted as soon as they are complete. Nora said they should all be out within the next two weeks when I last spoke to her. Obviously it's not ideal to have to take out a ton of loans, but hopefully our one-on-one meetings will be helpful and I'm sure it will all be worth it for the quality of education we will receive!
  12. This is the response I received: "Yes, the financial aid package is final. We are not meeting with students during the month of August while we are in the middle of packaging the spring cohort and helping our fall students. We will meet one-on-one with the spring cohort in the middle of September. The ”additional loan eligibility” is the maximum you can borrow from a private student lender for the spring/summer semesters. You don't have to borrow that much and there is no rush to apply for loans. We recommend you wait until you have the one-on-one counseling before beginning the process. The federal loans are capped for all ABSN students since this program is considered an undergraduate program." I hope this helps.
  13. @Goldenmoose I got my aid package too. I don't know if it's final, although I'm assuming it is if they have released it. I emailed Duke to try to chat with a financial aid representative to figure out some options because it looks like I'll have to take out tons of loans . I can let you know if they give me any useful info!
  14. I just logged in and I'm experiencing the same problem! I emailed Duke so hopefully that won't last long!
  15. I got in! Congratulations to everyone else who was accepted! :)
  16. Every time I try to log in it says Error 500--Internal Server Error From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1: 10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request
  17. That's exciting/scary news! Good luck to everyone! I hope we all hear good news this upcoming week!!
  18. @tytionnaforrest thanks for sharing! If anyone else doesn't mind, I'd love to hear about your favorite things from Duke Days, or things you weren't as impressed with. I've watched the video recordings that Nora sent, but I want to know what your overall impression was. :)
  19. @Sarah44 Wow, your stats sound very impressive! You don't get a bachelor's just a master's. You graduate prepared to take the NCLEX and work as an RN or you can move on to a specialty program. It's advantageous over a bachelor's program if you plan to earn a master's or doctorate at some point. I don't know how long it takes to get your financial aid package if you are accepted, but hopefully within a couple of weeks. JH is a pretty penny. NursingCAS only took like 3 days to verify my application after my transcripts were in, even though their website says it can take up to 3 weeks or something nuts like that. I suppose it depends on how many applications they are verifying overall. Best of luck to you!
  20. @coloradoriver1789: Which particular emails are you referring to? The last two I received were the links to the Duke Days recordings (I couldn't attend), and the link to the Duke Days survey. That makes me a little nervous. @tytionnaforrest: I have access to Google Drive and I'd love to take a peek at your photos/videos if you don't mind sharing the link!
  21. I'm assuming you just won't ever hear back from the financial aid department if you are denied acceptance. And hopefully, if you did get accepted, you would hear back very shortly after. Good luck!!
  22. Thank you so much for your reply! How soon after finding out about your acceptance did you hear about financial aid?
  23. Thank you for agreeing to answer questions! I have a few: Where else did you apply? Was the transition difficult? What have been the most challenging parts of nursing school? Do you think your cohort is fairly supportive of everyone or are people mostly out for themselves? Would you choose Hopkins again? Thanks!
  24. My application is officially submitted (including references and transcript verification)! It's so crazy to think that it's officially out of my hands! Good luck to everyone else on their applications! Do you know if we should be hearing back at the beginning or end of September?
  25. Hi Everyone! Congratulations to everybody who received an invite to Duke Days! I got an invite as well but unfortunately I will not be able to attend due to travel restrictions. I am very interested in hearing about everyone's experience at Duke Days! If you go, please comment with your experience! Does anyone know if we will be notified once they have reached an admissions decision or if we simply have to keep checking the portal periodically? I'm so anxious! Best of luck to you all!
