  1. That's what I was wondering .. I think we are missing a starting dose and therefore we cannot complete it. Last week we were given a similar problem but it gave it a starting dose and we were able to calculate it that way. From other's I've spoken to they stated we do not need to add or subtract anything at the moment .. that the answers would be as follows: 3.5 units/hr 4 units/hr 2.5 units/hr 1.5 units/hr 3 units per hour 3 units per hour 2.5 units per hour and the ml/hr would be double of each of those. If that's the case that's a super simple solution to the answer but last week we had to either add or subtract in our problem, so, I'm not sure. sigh! I'll post on here what it is that the instructor was looking for after class tomorrow .. we do go over these in class eventually but they're supposed to be finish before class starts. Thanks for the help guys!!
  2. Hi Guys, Sorry to keep bothering you all with my questions but I'm really having a hard time. I'm not looking for all the answers I just kind of need help starting. I'm not sure if we're missing information or if I've just drawn a blank and that's why I can't figure out how to do this problem. So, below is all the information I've been provided with ... Actually I've attached our document since it won't let me copy and paste. Thanks in advance for your help!!! Print (2).pptx.docx
  3. Sorry I copied the entire question from our handout .. that's all the Information that was given to us. I didn't mean to post the second part of the question .. just the math portion. I assumed the same about not stopping the fluid but the nursing tutor stated we did subtract it .. thanks for your help!! I'll update how my instructor tells us is the way he wants us to do it!!
  4. Sorry for all the questions guys - my classmates and I will be asking my instructor on our Lab day but it's a ways and we would like to know so we can keep practicing similar problems. So, the questions reads like this: Doctor orders Total IV fluid restriction of 2400 ml per day. Currently the IV NS is infusing at 75 ml/hr, during your 12 hour day shift you have to hang two medications and on the night shift they will have to hang the same ones again, one is in three 50 ml bags to run over 3 hours and the other is in a 250 ml bag to run over 45 minutes. 5) How many ml/hr should the maintenance IV fluid be running? ___________ 6) If the patient complained of pain near the IV site and radiating up the arm what would you do? ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ There were 2 different ways we solved it .. a few of us did the following: 2400-800(total going in) = 1600 ml - we all did this step the same some divided the 1600 ml by 24 hours and others divided 1600 by 16.5 hours. The rational of 16.5 hours is that it takes 7.5 hours to give those medications mentioned. We're not sure if we subtract those hours or if they would run together since its a maintenance fluid - would we stop the maint. fluid? Thank you for your help!!!
  5. Thank you so much for your help!! We were all getting really different answers .. for some reason a couple of my classmates were getting 80 ml/day so then they were dividing it by 24 hours giving them a really small number. I think it was a simple mistake of units. Thank you so much for clarifying.
  6. Hi Guys, My classmates and I are trying to do our med math problems and compare answers and we keep getting different answers eeekkk!! Can someone please let me know if I'm doing this correctly? Thank you in advnace!! "Doctor orders D5 0.25 NS for a 40 kg pt.; use the pediatric fluid maintenance 4:2:1 rule to calculate daily need and then apply hourly rate using the tubing sets below. - 4 ml/kg/hr for the first 10 kg - 2 ml/kg/hr for 10-20 kg - 1 ml/kg/hr for every kg over 20 kg What is the total daily need: What is the hourly rate: So, this is what I did .. 10kg x 4 ml/kg/hr = 40 ml/hr 10 kg x 2 ml/kg/hr = 20 ml/hr 20 kg x 1 ml/kg/hr = 20 ml/hr So, hourly rate would be 80 ml/hr, correct? Therefore, total daily need would be 80ml/hr x 24 hr/day = 1920ml/day. If not, can someone please help me. ?
  7. Nope, I received the same email that they would not be able to accommodate me for FA2018. It's alright though, I'm enjoying my time before I start!! See you guys at orientation!!
  8. Hey! Sorry, I forgot to update. So, she said no "swap outs" were allowed from SP19 to FA18, .. that the only way we would be allowed to get in is if there were open slots after the alternates got in. I'm not sure about switching from FA18 to SP19. Sorry girly! The meeting was very quick!
  9. Hey! The program is still lottery based so you really just need the bare minimum amount of points. I believe that is 50 points. A friend and I both got into the lottery and our grades and teas scores were different. I got a 74 on the Teas but I can't recall what my GPA was, somewhere in the 3.6 area I believe.. My friend received a 64 on her teas but had a 4.0 as her GPA. Good luck!
  10. Awesome!! I def. told them that if it were a no we were NOT giving up our seat lol .. she did ask me if the other party was SURE they wanted to trade. She told me that if Dr. Robinson did approve that, that she would need to make certain that the other individual really wanted to swap! So I will def keep you updated, my appointment is Friday at 4:15!
  11. Hey girly, .. So I called and the director's secretary said that we'd have to talk to Dr. Robinson, .. I have an appointment with them on Friday, the counselors were unable to answer the question, they said that's something Dr. Robinson would have to decide on!!
  12. I got an appointment as well, .. mine is at 4:15. Is yours sooner? Maybe you'd be able to let us know before hand!
  13. ohh man! What time will you be meeting with the director? When I called earlier today there were no counselors available so they couldn't answer my question, .. I assume they won't be able to answer tomorrow either unless I speak to the director!! Please let us know what she tells you, .. I wonder if there are a lot of ppl who got chosen for FA18 that would like to switch?
  14. So they said they cannot do a swap? You will be going in to talk to the director to see if they might do it? I'll be calling tomorrow hopefully they think about it and say yes!!
  15. Yours is sooner, makes sense! Okay, i will call in tomorrow and let you know what they tell me! Fingers crossed. I'll post it here when I find out!!
  16. I just called as well, .. the lady giggled. She asked if I had someone call with the same question lol She basically told me the same thing!! My lunch break is usually from 1130-1200 but I will try to see if I can swap for tomorrow so I can ask!! And yes, if they approve it I would LOVE to switch with you!!! When is your orientation? Mine is not actually until November. Hopefully they can answer us tomorrow!!!
  17. Ahhh!! I will have my lunch break in a few minutes. I can call and ask lol I'd really love to start like ASAP!!!
  18. I really wish it were possible! Maybe you could call and ask if you know someone that would trade if they would allow it? I'd def. be willing to switch with ya! I was selected for SP19 but really wanted FA18!!
  19. Congrats!! It's been about a 1.5 yrs since I've had A&P, so, I've been reviewing my A&P book like crazy, .. I don't start till january 2019 though! I've also been on KhanAcademy that helps review the A&P! I too am just nervous for the A&P since it's been a while!!! Good luck on your Journey!!
  20. You should call the office!! It appears right beneath where it says SELECTED .. it'll have a little message and then it'll say "accept here" .. that hyperlink will take you to an "accepted" page!
  21. Congrats!! I'm Spring2019 too!! I was planning to call to see if we could get bumped but thanks for letting us know!! Well, at least we know we're in for sure! My friends were so sad to be UNSELECTED! Feels like it's going to be a while until we start! I guess I should start refreshing my mind with the anatamy and physiology!!
  22. Congrats again!! Good luck on the journey!
  23. If they just updated it then it takes a while to allow you to accept it! Mine wasn't available to press until about 2 hours after it had said Selected! Just to be safe you should call and ask the allied health office!
  24. Awesome!! I'm a little jealous lol I was hoping for Fall 2018 too! Good Luck on your journey!
  25. Hopefully it's Selected by now!! And Big_Mac06, .. I just accepted mine too! I was wondering if people from Fall18 didn't accept if we would be able to take their slot! But I think they have the alternates chosen!
