  1. I called and asked them about this as well. They person I spoke to suggested anyone applying to med or nursing school should include my parent's info. He said that 'it'll help the school figure out if your parents can help with paying your tuition'. From that I assume that if your parents make bank, it wouldn't be helpful and if your parents don't, it could be of benefit. You might be offered more loans, scholarship, etc. I would call and tell them your situation. See what they say. Hope you figure it out!
  2. Blackberrymousse, I got in! Thanks for asking. Yeah, hoping everyone else here gets their decision soon! Jazminjfuertes, doesn't hurt to submit the Fafsa application. If you're accepted, you'll have your fin aid packet sooner. I submitted mine today and I might have to wait a week to get my packet. Home - FAFSA on the Web - Federal Student Aid Good luck!
  3. So I called FAFSA to ask about this. The person I spoke to told me to select 4th year since we will be there for more than one year. When applying for aid next year (Fall 2018) we would select 5th year. He said that it's not a big deal whether you put 4th or 5th year this year; it won't inhibit you from getting financial aid next year. He sait that it's just more accurate to put 4th year this year. Make sure that you select "Second Bachelors" for the next question. They people that work FAFSA are actually super knowledgable about the application. If you have any uncertainties or issues I think the best thing to do is call them. They're also usually pretty friendly. Very different experience from calling Verizon or whatever hahaha. This is their number. (1-800-433-3243)
  4. I applied before the priority deadline and received my decision by Albert yesterday (Monday) morning. I think there's a lag in the system because I received an email alerting me to change on my Albert about 5 hours later. Here are my stats. I guess I want to share them because I really didn't think I'd get in due to my low GPA. When they say they look at your application holistically, I think it's really true. Microbiology, University of California-Berkeley GPA: 3.1 Strong volunteer experience: free-clinic for 4ish years diagnosing and treating STIs Research in Environmental Science, Freshman year Research in Virology, Junior year Two letters of recommendation from the post-docs that I did research under Micro: A, (retook at CC cuz I wasn't happy with my undergrad grade) Anatomy: A Physio: in progress Nutri: in progress Psych: in progress I was rejected by University of Illinois and George Washington. I rewrote my personal statement to make it more personal, etc. before I sent it to NYU. My personal statement and my experiences are definitely what got me in. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!
  5. I just received my decision today!! I got in! I was rejected by Illinois and George Washington so it's a huge surprise.
  6. Has anyone heard back today? I keep telling myself to be patient, but this wait is killing me! haha
  7. I think they're sent out every friday
  8. This is what I've gathered from last year's thread: 1. Check Albert for any missing pieces of your app. Call admissions to confirm. 2. The first set of decisions were released on April 7 (their deadlines were the same as ours). 3. Not all decisions are sent out at once. It seems like they were sent out in small batches once a week from the initial release up until June. So you could be waiting to hear back for a while. Not hearing from them doesn't mean you've been rejected, so don't lose hope. 4. Some applicants who applied by priority Heard back after some who applied regular. 5. Calling the admissions office for an update on when they will be released doesn't get you anywhere. 6. I think there's only one person reading through the applicactions. 7. You'll get your decision in an email. GOOD LUCK!!!! I think the first round of decisions will be this Friday. Don't stress if you don't hear back... even if you applied priority. I think it's good to keep in mind that NYU's slow release is reflective of their effort to look at applicants holistically.
  9. Applicants last year started to hear back exactly one week after the April 1st deadline. They continued to release decisions once a week up until June
  10. Okay, I'm going to answer my own question. I was looking through the Fall 2016 thread and they started receiving their decisions one week after the April 1 deadline. I think the last decisions were sent out in early June so some applicants were waiting for a pretty long time. A few of them seemed to become very nervous and frustrated. I won't be going back on that thread cuz it was stressing me out! Haha
  11. Hello! New to this thread. I submitted my application for the priority deadline and can't stop thinking about it! NYU is my top choice, so I'm very anxious for the decisions to be sent out. Anyone have any clue as to when they will be sent out? I'm thinking they wouldn't send any of them out before they review the applications submitted by the April 1 deadline???
