  3. I have to write an evidence based paper on the topic of diabetes for one of my classes. I tried looking for something on this all day, but I am confused. What is an evidence based practice done with diabetes? Does this just mean like diagnosis tools that are used in health care? Or education that is done with patient through nurses? I am just confused and haven't been able to find very much. Thanks in advance!
  4. Thank you that helps a lot!:) I am just still a little confused about how to use evidence based practice with the topic of diabetes.. I just don't fully understand what evidence based practice is exactly with diabetes ? I found an article that is called "Empowering Staff Nurses as Primary Educators for Patients with Type 1 Diabetes"... Is that evidence based practice ? Using nurses as educators ? Or is evidence based practice meaning more like how we diagnose the disease and what treatment is used? Sorry I don't know why I'm so confused on it! haha but thank you!!
  5. I have to write an evidence based paper about diabetes for my nursing program and I am confused on what it is. Can I write something such as Glycosylated hemoglobin test? Is that an evidence based practice? Thank you for your help in advance!

  7. I need to submit my application for an LPN program next week and I was seeing if I could get any tips on my essay. Anything that I should add or take away would be nice. -There is no word count limit for the paper and here are the requirements: 1. Any leadership, community, or service positions you have held. 2. Your reason for selecting nursing as a career. 3. Any special reasons for selecting to enter this college. 4. Your plans and aspirations for the future. Throughout my life I have always felt a strong desire to become a nurse and my experiences' as a Certified Nursing Assistant is what has truly made me want to be a nurse. I currently work at -------- Assisted Living in --------- and have grown a new love for nursing. I love being able to interact with the residents, their families, and my co-workers. Being able to physically and mentally help the residents that I work with is very rewarding. I know that it can be challenging at times, but I have recognized during the difficult times is when I can truly apply my knowledge and skills to make a positive difference. I have loved being able to build relationships with a resident's family and earning their trust in my skills has made me love this field even more. I have learned how important teamwork is from my workers and I want to be able to pass this down to future CNAs. One specific thing that sets nursing apart from other service-oriented careers is the use of medical science. I love learning about the physiology of the human body and I want to be able to advance my knowledge to apply these things into my practice. I have had a passion for learning my whole life and this is why school has been a huge priority for me. I am a first generation student, which can be difficult because I have had to learn the value of a good education on my own, but it has helped me set high standards for myself. It is amazing to me how the medical field continues to advance and a career in nursing will give me the opportunity for lifelong learning. I have been able to learn important leadership skills through school and work. I was an Anatomy TA for Dr. ----- through spring and fall semester in 2016. I loved doing this because it was a challenge for me, taught me a lot, and got me out of my comfort zone. I had a short time period to teach a group of students a large amount of information so I had to time manage and decide what the group needed to I loved being able to challenge myself to find new ways to teach other students. I volunteered at the --- Ambulance from January to mid-July 2016 and I loved that I was able to contribute my time into my hometown. My tasks included keeping inventory, cleaning the ambulances, and organizing. I felt like these were small tasks, but the team always commented on how they haven't had time to do these things and that it meant a lot. This work made me learn the importance of service and I am planning on finding new opportunities this summer. I have absolutely have loved being a student at ------ and I would love the opportunity to continue my education in the ------ LPN Program. I want to go here because of the quality of this program and the location. This program has an excellent NCLEX passing rate, which is very important to me, as I have been researching programs. I have worked under many excellent nurses that have received their education though this program. These nurses have shown leadership, knowledge, and service through their work and it is because of this excellent program. These nurses have been excellent examples to me and I want to be able to pass on this example. My career goals consist of successfully completing the LPN program as well as the RN program through ------. Once I pass the NCLEX I will work at ----- Hospital so that I can learn essential skills in this working environment. I will promptly complete my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing through ---- State University. My ultimate goal is to work as a Hospice Nurse because I truly feel like my personality and mindset will fit this career perfectly. I plan to live and raise my future family in ---- County, I think that this is a great community and I have really enjoyed growing up here. My personal goals consist of continuing to learn, teach, and find new ways to serve others. I am at a time in my life that I know I am fully prepared for this program and I will put everything into it in order to be successful.
  8. Thank you for your input:) I am going to redo my introduction and cut out some things that are not important!
  9. Can anybody please give me some helpful tips for my nursing application essay? If you think I need to take anything out please let me know:) I am not quite finished, but I don't want to get to far if I'm going to have to start over… My prompt is: 1-Any leadership service (I need to add still) 2-Your reason for selecting nursing 3-Why you want to be apart of this college 4-Plans for the future Growing up as the oldest child I developed a passion for taking care of others. I learned how to be selfless at a young age and the importance of serving others since my mother was in and out of my life growing up. I was able to help my father take care of my younger brothers by helping them get ready for school, teaching them their homework problems, and being each others support system. Throughout my life I have gradually realized that I have the personality and mindset that will make an excellent nurse. I have worked in a skilled nursing center and an assisted living center as a Certified Nursing Assistant and this is what truly has made me want to become a nurse. I current work as a CNA at Country Lane Assisted Living in _____ doing twelve hour grave yard shifts and PRN shifts. I have been trained to pass medication under the facility Registered Nurse, which has given me a lot of responsibility and new knowledge. I love the responsibility that I have and the trust that I have gained from the residents and my co-workers. As I watch my grandparents and parents age it has given me new motivation to provide the best care that I can and be compassionate towards the people that I have the opportunity to give care to. This is my introduction going over why I want to be a nurse and this is as far as I have gotten because I am not sure if I should start the essay like this or with leadership. Thank you for any input:)
