  1. Advice needed. I am orienting as an RN with the VA, hired on Nightshift. I completed my NEO and NEON and started clinical orientation in June. Initially, I was scheduled 2 weeks on Dayshift for Training and then transitioned to nights. So far so good. Today I found out that I am scheduled in the evenings, starting Sunday. Supposedly the required checklist was not completed, and new Employees are required to train on all shifts. In general, that is fine with me, BUT Management failed to inform me about this and now I have less than 3 days to accommodate my private schedule and appointments. How much time in advance am I supposed to be informed about changes in my work schedule? I was not aware of this training policy, and feel that Management is at fault . Can I refuse to change work hours on such short notice? This is my first government job. All advice and Inside are greatly appreciated. TIA
  2. Thank you! I in fact received my FJO 4 Days before my start date!
  3. Hello, I am still in the onboarding Process. My Timeline so far: 03/21 : TJO 04/03: Online Onboarding, EQIP, Credentialing 04/10: Fingerprinting, Physical Exam, and credentialing completed, confirmed via Phone Call. 04/12: Submitted my Board Evaluation Essay ( 4 Dimensions) 04/25: received a Call that Board is ready to review 5/16: HR sent an email that they are ready to draft FJO and asked me to pick a start Date fast forward to today: picked 6/4 as the start date, but have not received my FJO yet! Should I expect my Start Date to be pushed back another 2 Weeks, or is it common to receive the final offer Letter so close to the Start date???? I am onboarding with the VA in texas. TIA
  4. Received another email last week stating my FJO is being drafted and to pick a start date. However the start date I picked is June 5, and I still don't have my FJO
  5. Hello everyone. I am in the last Stages of the onboarding process with the Southern Texas VA. To determine my Paygrade I received an email from NPSB with the request to write a proficiency Profile. I am completely overwhelmed and don't even know where to start! I have a total of 20 years of experience, but only 5.5 years as an RN in the USA, and recently graduated with my BSN. I never held an official Supervisor Position or such... how can I reflect my nursing experience sufficiently? Since becoming a Nurse in the US I have always worked Nightshift, so there is not much experience with committee work. Also, what do I do if I am unable to retrieve the last Evaluation from my Employer??? We are in the middle of a cross-country move! Any help is greatly appreciated.
  6. Hello everyone, I need some advise about how to go about a Situation that is bothering me for a long time. I am a PACU Nurse, and we have a BIG Issue with our Recovery Room not being cleaned the Way it should . I have been working in this PACU for 5 Month, and in all this time I have only seen Houskeeping actually mopping the Floor ( with water and detergent or whatever they are using) 2 times max. Trash and soiled Linen management is also very poor. If my fellow Nurses and me would not make time during the Day to empty the containers, our Bins would be overflowing most Days, as houskeeping is nowhere to be seen during regular hours. My Co workers and me are really concerned about the lack of Hygiene. FYI I work 12 hour Shifts and am a "closer" meaning I am there until all Cases are done and therefore see when houskeeping comes in and what is being done. Reports were already filed with the director of houskeeping, which btw is a former RN!, but nothing changes. Our Infectious desease Nurse says there is not much she can do, other then talk to the director.... I become more disgusted every Day! Any advise on where else to Report these Issues??? Since I am from a foreign country, I have no Idea on what the Standart is on cleaning routines for Critical Care Units like PACU here in the US. All I know is that, where I come from, PACU gets cleaned at least 1 time every Shift ( 3 Shift Rotation) TIA
  7. Hello, first of all, there is no way to compare german Nursing with Canadian or US Nursing. I am a german trained Nurse, and our License is somewhat more general, which means that we do not have as many different fields of specialty. To answer your Question about english speaking Nursing Jobs, I am afraid that there are no such Jobs in the German System. The only Chance you would have, is to apply in an US, British or Canadian Military Hospital, but those Jobs are very rare and far between because the Army or whatever Branch usually prefferes Spouses of Members. If you where able to talk German, I am sure you would have no trouble finding a Job. Income is based on experiance, as well as the kind of Hospital. On average the Basic Income will be around 2000 Euro/ per month. As far as optaining a License you would have to get with the corresbonding Landesamt, depending on which State you want to live an work. Once your License is issued, you can work wherever you want in Germany, and the License is good for Life, meaning it does not need to be renewed
