  1. Thanks for starting this thread! I applied to the Oncology and Step-Down/Med-surg programs. This is my first time applying to this hospital but my 20-something application in CA post graduation. This is off-topic but since we won't hear anything quite yet from UCLA I was wondering if I could reach out to locals from SoCal for some insight in the meantime (then once/if I hear anything from UCLA I'll be sure to update it here!). I am from the Univ. of AZ (graduated in Dec.) and moved to CA with my husband (for a job he got in San Diego). I have an AZ RN license and applied in February for the CA one by endorsement (I know it takes like 3-4 months or more to finally get the license so I'm not exactly super employable yet). But, can any SoCal locals give me a realistic idea of how hard it is to get hired here (especially if I obviously didn't do any clinical rotations in San Diego or LA)? The only kind of unique thing I have going for me is that I am bilingual. San Diego seems as if it's twice as competitive as the LA area (maybe because LA has way more hospital networks to apply to). I have heard that many San Diego hospitals fill all their positions with internal hires, but have to legally post the positions externally even though they have little intention of hiring externally. Does anyone know if this is true? One girl from my program got hired at UCLA the last round, so I know UCLA is an exception...although I'm sure it still helps to be from the area. Thanks for any insight!
  2. Thank you for that feedback! It's nice to hear from someone who has actually gone through this give me a more realistic idea of how long I'll be waiting. I'm glad I got my NCLEX over with through AZ BON, and then applied for endorsement in CA because I can't imagine waiting that long to test. Since I applied for endorsement February 8 and it took you 4 months, I think I'll just not expect anything until the beginning of June then. Thanks again!
  3. I applied to a Sharp Chula Vista in January for an April 20th start date. It's a four unit new grad rotation one (ER, PCU, Tele, Med-Surg), different than their typical application where you choose a few units to apply to. Anyways, my status has said "Under hiring department review" since February 10th. And, around that same time a recruiter reached out to me to confirm I am bilingual. Today is March 2nd. Do you think by now they have told people about interviews? Like maybe they didn't bother to change my status to "no longer under consideration" even though they don't plan on considering me anymore?
  4. Can someone who has recently gone through this share their experience with me? I submitted my application electronically for licensure by endorsement on Feb. 8, 2017, after passing my NCLEX in Arizona. I paid the fee for a temporary license as well (even though I've heard that may just be a waste of money and some hospitals don't accept a temp one). I did the live scan in California, sent my transcripts from my nursing school (and the community college where I did prereq's at), and I uploaded all of the necessary documents to the licensure by endorsement application (passport photo, etc.). I have heard that the estimated 10-12 weeks processing time may not even apply until they have deposited the money you pay them (which I've been checking by looking at my bank account online). Is this true? I have been offered interviews only to have the invites rescinded once I told them that I applied for endorsement recently. The recruiters told me it may take way longer than the 10-12 weeks. I have written my local assemblymember in San Diego about this, and he said that he forwarded my complaint and proposal that the CA BRN be better staffed to the assemblymember in Sacramento. I'm growing anxious because I moved here with my husband after nursing school for his dream job and realizing that I may be waiting to work for a long time, even though recruiters have shown interest. Meanwhile I am volunteering as a Spanish medical interpreter (thanks to my first degree) and trying to somehow keep nursing knowledge fresh in my head. I know CA is a tough place for new grad nurses and that so many others are suffering due to the backlog at the CA BRN...but I am starting to wonder if I'll ever get that CA license or if I'll need to go back to AZ and try to join my husband here in a few years.
