Penn DNP-NA 2018
Well ladies and gentlemen reality is setting in. We've received our e-mails with our first set of tasks/expectations. It's definitely going to be hard giving up the comforts we've become so used to as ICU nurses and go straight back to the stressful bottom of the totem pole, but I'm excited to begin this journey with you all. I can tell getting licensed in the other states isn't going to be a cake walk, and costs are going to rack up quickly, but I guess todays sacrifices lead to tomorrows success. If I have any information or tips/tricks to pass on as we begin this process I'll happily share them. I hope you all will do the same. Go Quakers! Is that an appropriate way to end this message? lol

Hello bonek77! The handbook I'm referencing is actually online and this is how I obtained it: 1) Go to our completed online application 2)View your decision letter 3) Click the 1st blue hyperlink in the decision letter 4) Choose the MSN/DNP Handbook 5) Scroll down and choose anesthesia supplemental handbook Hope this helps! See you in a few months!

We're getting down to 5 months and some change now and I'm definitely excited bonek77! I've been working and saving and trying to enjoy whatever free time I have in anticipation for the journey ahead, but as you said I'm excited to be a part of it with everyone. Skimming through the handbook got me pretty nervous, but I'm excited to finally start. To answer your question Basia according to the calendar addendum classes start on May 21st! I seriously look forward to meeting everyone and becoming a team of people struggling to achieve this goal together. We should make jerseys, because we're going to make a great team. ...sorry in advance. I have a lot of dad jokes, and I'm not a dad so I have no excuse.

Any word on our Plan of Study? Did Sylvia English reply?

Penn DNP-NA 2018
Update: According to the office of Nursing Registrar there are no courses available for us to take online (there may have been one in summer but it's no longer available), if we want to take a course prior to starting the program we would have to do it in person. This would be really difficult for me due to my work schedule and the fact that I live over an hour away, but it's a possibility for those who are interested.

Hey everyone! So I received the Pennkey as I'm sure many of you have, and now I'm curious as to what steps should be taken from here. My current plan is 1) Get a grasp on financial aid and fully understand the payment/financial aid process for the next three years 2) Sign up for at least one class that can be taken online prior to starting in Summer of 2018, I heard the introduction to epidemiology was a good option but it appears to be closed. If anyone has any information or tips that they've learned I'd love to hear them. I'll keep you updated on what I find out. Once again super excited to meet you all and start this journey together!

I'm still waiting on the PennKey set up info too. It said it should be about a week, but it's been about a month. I guess we're all just really excited. Hoping a year flies by.

Hey Bonek77! I'm also sorry for the delayed response i never got an e-mail that there even was a response until the last comment by Ldv119. I think all of her advice was spot on, especially the do your best not to compare yourselves to others. We ALL have our own weaknesses. My overall GPA was a 3.74 and your GPA is great so don't worry there. Some key things that I want to reemphasize from Ldv's comments are 1) CCRN I think that's a really important exam to take and pass because it kind of proves you have advanced knowledge in critical care 2) Although I took my GRE I don't believe it's necessary to have an amazing GRE score when your GPA, CCRN, experience and interview can prove your ability to critically think and understand in-depth A&P and pertinent medical/nursing material, so don't let it discourage you from applying somewhere if you take it and realize you forgot a lot of your high school math like I did. Haha 3) Shadow someone in anesthesia which I think may be a requirement due to the fact they require a letter of rec from a CRNA and 4) In the interview be yourself. I was so incredibly nervous, but I answered all their questions completely honestly and although I did my absolute best to answer their questions intelligently, if I didn't know something I simply admitted I didn't know it and hoped I had answered enough for them to believe I was ready. I believe they don't miss the forest for the trees, meaning they take all things into consideration when trying to see if an applicant is ready for the long haul to becoming a CRNA. So whatever weakness you feel you have whether it's GPA, experience, GRE, whatever it is just do your best to better yourself however you can and prove yourself prepared to succeed in the DNP-NA program. I really hope you get in and we can call each other classmates in 2018. P.S. there's a specific thread to DNP-NA 2018 in case you want to ask questions to some people who may not be following this thread

Thank you Yc146! They originally told me they'd be informing me of their decision in May (so of course I started checking my e-mail every four hours after the interview), and I was pleasantly surprised when I got the letter 9 days later.

Hello All, I got a letter about a week ago and I've been accepted! I'm BEYOND excited it's seriously my biggest dream come true! Now I was hoping to create or join a thread for the Summer 2018 Penn DNP-NA applicants/students so that we can get a grasp on the upcoming year. One of my biggest questions is the official start date, from what I've read it seems to be May 22nd, but I wanted to be absolutely sure. The students in this thread will likely be our mentors, and I'm extremely excited to work, study and learn beside all of you! Best of luck to everyone regardless of which stage you are in of this journey.

A couple days ago I was called to schedule an interview! There are no words for how excited/happy I am, but I know you have all felt that same feeling. Are there any tips you would have for an applicant before the interview? I read GordonIsSoCool (which he is) reply, but I was wondering if there were any specific examples of their clinical questions? As much as I am excited I'm twice as nervous. So any advice would be extremely appreciated. Hopefully I'll be seeing you all soon, as you are getting ready to graduate and I am in the position you are in now. That would be a dream come true. Best of luck to all of you as you achieve your dreams these upcoming years.
