Hi FutureNurseInfo! I appreciate the response! I am certainly thinking about it. Scholarships (for transfers) are up to $11,000 and it varies. If I am correct, the $11,000 will be split into two disbursements ($5,500) for the fall and spring semester. I believe it is each year but you have to maintain your GPA and renewable for 6 semesters. I don't know if SJC gives it for 6 semester but I know LIU does. Have you submitted your applications? I would also suggest trying St. Francis College in Brooklyn because an alternative of the TEAS would be an ACT or SAT score with a minimum score (not sure from the top of my head. Hi Everyone! I would greatly appreciate your advice about my situation. I started my studies in a CUNY school, but sadly, the school I transferred out was just too competitive --- very limited seats with hundreds applying. Fast forward, I took a year off and I decided between two private colleges. LIU Brooklyn and St Joseph's College in Brooklyn for this Spring 2017. I applied on the spot with LIU and I was accepted with a $9,000 scholarship. I applied to St. Joseph's and I was "waitlisted" and told that my application would be deferred to this upcoming fall with a "high chance" of a favorable response. I think it was because I submitted my application too close to the start of the this spring semester. I decided to enroll in LIU as a transfer student. I completed almost majority of my pre - reqs and I am in the process of finishing the remaining ones. I have the option to CLEP some science courses and math (which I plan on doing such as BIO 1, 2 and CHEM). I also plan to enroll in the summer sessions so that by next Spring I could start my clinical phase. At the top of my head, I believe you need to maintain above a C in all courses , 3.0 GPA, and have the minimum score for each section needed on the TEAS (not composite) before progressing into the clinical phase. Despite some negative comments of the school, I personally know a friend who graduated from the program and strongly believes that you shouldn't let one opinion destroy your perception of the school itself. This is where I find myself thinking. The tuition is very expensive. Even with the $9,000 yearly scholarship (4,500 per sem) I would find myself paying maybe $13K-15k? The yearly tuition is already in the $40k before any scholarship applied and I would expect it to rise even more as I progress through the program. St. Joseph's College; however, just introduced it's new BSN program (the school itself is rated about 5 stars). According to the admissions counselor handling my file, once accepted into the college -- you do not need to take the nursing entrance exam (unlike LIU), but you need to score a B+ and above on the science and math courses. As I mentioned, although waitlisted and deferred, they mentioned I have a high chance of being admitted. The tuition is much more justifiable at just $12,500 per semester/ about $25,000 per year and thats without scholarship (I do expect to receive a transfer scholarship due to my GPA -- according to their website transfers are awarded scholarships up to $11k) I find myself uneasy thinking about the tuition in LIU but I am already in and finishing off the remaining pre reqs. Should the tuition make me lean towards in transferring to St Joseph's (If I am admitted for this upcoming fall and given a scholarship). I do like how its a new BSN program and there is no entrance exam required but they do require a B+ or better in science/and math unlike LIU where a C is accepted. Another part of my mind is telling me I should just stay in LIU because transferring to St Joseph's would mean completing another set of pre-reqs for their program.
