  1. My friends and I have a question, When you go to flush an IV line on your patient and you see some old blood that has back flowed into the line, do you flush it through or pull it back before flushing it? We are worried about pushing clots into the patient but seasoned nurses are telling us it's ok on our floor.
  2. Thank you for your reply! Any input helps :) - V
  3. So i'm writing up a case study for school concerning the following patient: "M.K. is a 45-year-old female, measuring 5'5” and weighs 225 lbs. M.K. has a history of smoking about 22 years along with a poor diet. She has a history of Type II diabetes mellitus along with primary hypertension. M.K. has recently been diagnosed with chronic bronchitis. Her current symptoms include chronic cough, more severe in the mornings with sputum, light-headedness, distended neck veins, excessive peripheral edema, and increase urination at night. Her current medications include Lotensin and Lasix for the hypertension along with Glucophage for the Type II diabetes mellitus." One of the questions I must address concerning this patient is "Which type of heart failure would you suspect with M.K.? Explain the pathogenesis of how this type of heart failure develops." I'm thinking it would be right-sided heart failure because of her chronic bronchitis that causes pulmonary hypertension thus causing a back up of blood in the right ventricle and back to the rest of her body, but i'd just like to see what experienced nurses out there have to say about it! Am I right or am I completely wrong? Please help! Thank you! Sincerely, Vanessa
  4. If I were you I'd do an in depth, comprehensive review with the Saunders NCLEX prep book and then purchase the Kaplan q-bank to start getting the feel for what NCLEX questions are like. Saunders is to the point, structured nicely, user friendly book and a down right great review from head to toe. If you need any links to these study materials let me know.
  5. Hello all! I think I'm having some severe writer's block or I'm just thinking WAY too hard about this right now, but I'm just trying to seek a little bit of help in order to try and develop a topic for my research paper in my Leadership class in my BSN program. Do any of you have any ideas at the top of your mind right now about a topic I could research that has to do with leadership in healthcare? Some general areas my professor gave us are leadership in change management in health care, leadership in technology in health care, leadership in evidence-based protocols, and leadership in embedded safeguards to reduce injury and infection. Any ideas out there! Please and thank you in advance! - V
  6. It well so well!!!! The nurse manager who interviewed me said that the position I applied for wasn't technically available yet because he put in a request for 2 Staff Nurse I positions on his floor to his boss but was still waiting for approval so when he does get the approval he will hire 2 of the 5/6 new grads he interviewed, BUT at the end of my interview he said, "if I had the position available right now I would hire you on the spot, but I have to wait for approval" so I mean... I hope that means I got the position? Ha!
  7. Oh okay! Yeah, that makes me feel a whole lot better actually. Thank you for the response! I guess I am over thinking it huh? I'm wondering how much they really are going to focus on scenario based questions or not since I am a new grad.
  8. Hello everyone! My name is Vanessa and I'm a new grad, recently licensed RN and I have my very first hospital RN job interview tomorrow morning for a tele floor!!!! I didn't have the chance to work on a tele floor during nursing school so I have absolutely no experience. My question is, what kind of scenario based questions do you all think I should expect to have during my interview? I'm most concerned about the scenario questions specific to a tele floor. I'm not concerned with any of the general questions like "why do you want to work here?", "why did you want to become a nurse", "what are your strengths/weaknesses?" and etc. I would love any and all help! I just took an ACLS class today so I feel prepared if they ask my an EKG strip question at least! ;P Thank you in advance to anyone that can give me some examples or advice! Sincerely, Vanessa C. RN
