  1. I am a student right now, and we have been having discussion lately about the importance of joining a professional organization (ANA), both statewide and countrywide. I have heard the statistics on the percentages of nurses involved in these organizations, and they seem quite low... So my question to you all is: What are some of your reasons for joining or not joining a professional organization?
  2. I am a first year nursing student and I was just looking to get a little advice and input from some of you all who have a great deal of experience with this profession... I am typically a pretty shy person (not a great character trait to have in this profession, I know), and my biggest obstacle right now is communication with my patients and others that I encounter in the hospital. Does anyone have any advice on how to improve preofessional communication skills and get over that initial nervousness that I have? Thanks!
