I am in a similar class and have spent several hours searching the web for info re: law should mandate professional organization membership. I have had little luck, except internationally obtaining any scholarly literature re: this subj. However, I support prof. organz. involvement.
Any info or sites anyone else can suggest I would be greatly appreciative.
I am a member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) for over 2 yrs now, and was a member for 10 yrs 1990-2000. I changed jobs and changed my organization support. During that time I was a member of the Orthopedic Nurses, they are on the right track, but ENA offers much more.
What do they offer? First if you attend the local, state or national meetings you will leave energized and positive re: our profession. They offer a tremendous amt of education and core curriculum courses. I like the fact that they are developed by nurses, taught by nurses and for nurses. There is also a vast amount of publications, not just patient care, but staffing, policies, managerial and educational. ENA is also well respected in the political arena and have many subcomittees that promote community education, advanced practice, and scholarship opportunities.
