processing delays in California

Published

I finished school (BSN) in June and I sent in my application to the BRN in early May, they are barely processing applications from the beginning of March. I am completely overwhelmed waiting this long. Anyone in the same situation?

This has been the story in California for an incredibly long time. They really should prepare you guys for this in school.

We all are. It's ridiculous. And for us, since we didn't start our final quarter (and our application process) until the 2nd week of April, we're still sitting here waiting, trying not to have a psychotic break. I'm fairly close to driving up to Sacramento and seeing what I can make happen for myself. But this is a huge, ongoing issue. What's worse is that our Kaplan instructor insisted there is no backlog of applications so we should rain down on the board with phone calls like hell fire. I tried calling and was promptly hung up on. I don't really have any other options at this point except to prepare myself mentally for the bleak fact that I won't be getting to start my RN residency this year.

And yes, for god's sake they really should let us know what is happening when we're in school. This is awful and completely not conducive to studying and trying to stay prepared for the off chance that I get my ATT in time and can schedule my exam promptly. What's the point of having RN resident candidates even apply in March if they aren't going to have their license in time for the September start date????

I'm in the same boat too! Applied in May and still waiting, checking the CA BRN website daily to check if the processing times have been updated. It's beyond frustrating and I'm trying to stay motivated and keep studying but it's getting more difficult with each week that passes. I've called the BRN almost everyday for that past few weeks but have been unable to reach a live person. I sent them an email as well, but there's been no response. Many of my classmates are also still waiting to test, so we've tried to be proactive and have filed formal complaints with the CA BRN, with the department of consumer affairs and even written to our congressman. We just want some answers and hopefully if we can all make enough of a ruckus with the CA BRN, just maybe they'll be motivated to find a solution to the processing delays.
