pre-requisites

Can you guys explain to me what the procedure is to start pre-requisites. I know i will have to go to the college i plan to attend and have a placement test. Does this then determine what classes i will be taking e.g. math and english? I know i will have to start math from the beginning because i was not good at it while in school. Another thing i would like to know is are these pre-requisites expensive and do you have classes everyday, the whole day or just a few a week or a day. Is financial aid given too, for pre-requisites or for things like books? I am not working as yet, and once i start and have some income, i plan to take some classes once i have spoken to whoever deals with the placement test at the school. I am a CNA and have been planning to go to school to do either LPN or RN. Is the RN programme at a lower pace than the LPN one given that it (RN) takes a longer time to complete. Will appreciate all the advice i can get from you all.

Yes, your placement tests will determine which math/english classes you have to take.

Your math and english classes will probably be 3 or 4 units and hence meet 3 or 4 hours per week. How they're scheduled depends on the departments.

Here in California, they're not expensive. At the community colleges the classes cost $20 per unit. Books, of course, are extra (budget $150 per class and you should be OK).

Regarding the paces, the RN programs usually take longer because they cover more material. There are, however, accelerated programs which don't take as long to finish but are more condensed.

Financial aid of some sort is available beginning your first year of college. Speak with somebody at the financial aid office and they can help you out.

Get in to see an adviser and you can probably get all of your questions answered.

Best of luck to you.
