When a vented patient from ICU goes to OR for trach, where does the patient go afterwards?
Directly returns to ICU?, if so does a PACU RN go to ICU with patient?
Does patient go to PACU then return to ICU?
If possible, let me know the size/type of hospital and PACU unit size. Thanks in advance to any and all
who take time out to answer. :)

Level one trauma center. When they go to the OR for a trach (about 30% are done at the bedside) they come straight back. No side trip to PACU, no PACU nurse with the pt at any time.

Private hospital, small emergency unit, but predominantly physician-referred cases.
If a ventilated patient, with or without a trach, is scheduled for theater, the anaesthetist, his assisting nurse and an ICU RN accompany the patient to theater. Patient is returned straight to ICU, again by the anaesthetist, assisting nurse and the scrub RN. No PACU stay.
Non-ventilated patients with trachs are brought to PACU, depending on the anaesthetist's preference. Returned to ICU by the RN who recovered the patient.

We are a major, tertiary care trauma centre associated with a large university. We have 21 bays.
All ICU cases go directly back to ICU and to CVICU. The only exception I can think of is a patient (a same day admission destined for ICU postop (e.g. non-endovascular AAA) whose bed in ICU has not yet cleared (i.e.waiting on another ICU pt's transport to another hospital or waiting for an intermediate care bed if that pt has been declassified).
If someone in the Coronary Care ICU required a trachesotomy they probably would come to PACU first, depending upon the anesthetist - we've only recently been able to convince CCU to take their (sedation only) PM and AICD patients back directly!
Usually ICU cases slated for a tracheostomy are also failure to wean,so they return to ICU for continued ventilation. The only exception would be for a chronically ventilated pt from the medical IMCU who needs some sort of revision of their tracheostomy- they would likely come to PACU first -again,this would be rarely seen.

Sorry, I see you wanted the size of the hospital; small, 123 beds, 4 theaters, 4 pacu bays.
