Possible relocation to San Antonio

Published

Hey Texas nurses!

I might be relocating to San Antonio this fall from Pittsburgh. I am currently a nurse in a pediatric cardiac ICU, I was wondering if anyone could give me any information about Pediatric hospitals in the San Antonio area, I have researched a little but was wondering about availibility of jobs. Here in Pittsburgh it is a "privilege" to work in a pediatric hospital as we only have one, let alone an ICU, I love my job and cant see doing anything else. Just need some general recruitment information, nursing opportunites, pay, staff moral, how likely it would be to get a job in a cardiac ICU there. Any help?

Thanks!

Howdy! Welcome (in advance) to Texas.

In San Antonio, there is only one dedicated free-standing children's facility... CHRISTUS Santa Rosa. They recently made the commitment to enlarge that facility to the entire downtown campus and move all their adult patients to the other campuses. In light of this expansion, I am quite sure that they would be eager to engage someone with your skills and experience. I would advise you to contact them ASAP and discuss your relocation plans with them. Staff morale for the Children's hospital is great due to the re-commitment and expansion.

I assume you are familiar with the San Antonio area? If not, you may want to make a visit to check it out prior to moving. It is a predominately Hispanic population, with a wonderful laid-back atmosphere that celebrates diverse cultures. It is the home of the Institute of Texan Cultures - make sure to visit when you are in SA because it is a real eye-opener.... ex: second largest ethnic heritage in Texas is German; there is a huge Czech presence in many areas of Texas, etc.

Ditch those overcoats, snow boots and ice scrapers. Leave them all behind and come on down.

HAHA I love it! I am so excited to be moving! I can't wait to visit! I will be contacting their nursing recruiter soon! Thank you!!!
