PMHNP Certification

I was wondering if the certification questions were more similar to: Fitzgerald, ANCC Practice IQ, or pocket prep? I’m going to refresh myself on everything anyway but I was just curious. I am paying a lot of attention to policy/scope of practice and leadership questions also. Any other advice?

Specializes in ER Nurse newly Psychiatric NP.

I need some suggestion on materials to study . Did you do the exam already , If so any input ?

Specializes in Psychiatric.

Took the whole four hours. I was on question 80 with around two hours left. I had to speed up some and around question 150 I had around 50 minutes left. I thought a majority of questions were very straight forward, and only a small amount was I like what are they asking? However I did put myself into a time crunch.

Content: Really I wouldn’t focus on one category I had a mixture. What I did:

1. Fitzgerald Live course online.
2. Purple ANCC Review Book: did Questions once after reading it and then again a couple days before exam. I wrote out questions I missed with rationales the first time, second time just a summary. I read chapters 2-3 twice.
3. Scope and Standards of care Green Book.
4. ANCC IQ, ANCC Test Prep, ANCC Review manual CE Review.
5. Board Vitals.
6. Pocket Prep
7. One Exam edge quiz and one Barkley DRT
8. Memorable Psychiatry
9. Memorable Pharmacology
10. Memorable Neurology
11. Memorable Drug Interactions

I took notes on all of these.

The questions I did at least 100-200/day in last two weeks.

I would get up at 330 and study until my son got up. Take him to nanas house and study four more hours. Days I worked I would get up at 330 and study until work. How ever many questions I had time for.
Board vitals let’s you set time per question and amount of questions. Although the questions are mostly ridiculously hard, doing them and reading rationales helps. Same with all the other questions. I didn’t have any questions from any of those sites but I gained knowledge from those questions that allowed me to pass.

Aside from the above I listened to positive affirmations, mind enhancing music, anything I found that someone said was helpful.

The test i arrived an hour early and was able to get signed in and start test 1/2 hour early. Do the tutorial.

MOST IMPORTANT I CANT TAKE BACKGROUND NOISE AND DID NOT KNOW OTHERS TESTING WOULD BE TAKING EXAMS THEY HAD TO TYPE TO COMPLETE. It drove me insane, wear ear plugs if you’d like this.

I don’t think anyone needs all of this material but I did what I felt comfortable doing. This is a big test it is to practice what we spent 8 years learning, I wasn’t taking it twice.

We know this stuff it’s just a matter of pulling it out of our brains. All of the sources I listed are excellent but if you feel comfortable with what you used or are using then your good.

Deep breath, focus and remember you don’t just know it you know it better than anyone!

SUMMARY: If I had to choose only some of them: All the Fitzgerald, ANCC, and Board Vitals in that order. I never got higher than 62 on Board Vitals, Pocket Prep 70s, and Exam Edge 71, Barkley 74. Hope it helps.
