I will soon be taking the NCLEX-PN and I am freaking out because I don't know anything about nutrition. It's impossible to learn everything in 2 weeks, any suggestions about what I should focus on? Also, those who have taken the Nclex, were there many nutrition based questions? Thank you so much for any info you can give me!

Wow, nutrition class wasn't required in your PN program? We took nutrition our first semester and used the knowledge throughout our educations. And to answer your question, yes, there were nutrition questions on the NCLEX-PN. Such as if a patient's lab result shows a PT and INR of XXXX, which would be an example of an inappropriate snack?

Or, a patient is suffering from chronic pancreatitis, which of the following meals would be appropriate? If you were given these questions, you will need to know which foods affect clotting times, and you'd need to know which diet is prescribed for a patient with chronic pancreatitis. I had questions similar to those above on my NCLEX, although not worded exactly, the subject of the question is the same.

I didnt take nutrition either, but during med surg they do go over that stuff with you.For example, you need to know diets for cirrhosis patients, pancreatitis,I got a question that asked me which food has the most potassium-answer was the bakes potato.Even so I did feel weak in that area so before I took the NCLEX I bought the Saunders book, there is a whole section on nutrition. It was very helpful.

You don't need a nutrition class to pass the NCLEX. Just study the type of diets recommended for certian disease states -- this info is found in any NCLEX review guide, and it would take only a few minutes to learn.

I just viewed you profile and at the age you are you may be in the average age range. The majority of my class were 30 to 40 year olds. You will do great!

Our whole class consisted of older adults going back to school except for about two. In fact it was the "younger students" who couldnt deal and either dropped or were failed out! our average age was late thirties but we even had a grandmother of 9 who was in her 60s pass!!!!!!! dont worry if it is what you want you will succeed!!!!!!!Good luck-
